Check out the HyperFlame FyreKnight Camping Stove from Coleman here:
www.snowys.com.au/hyperflame-...
Reliable, robust and convenient, it’s no wonder the HyperFlame FyreKnight stove from Coleman is one of our most popular camping stoves.
Burning hot and cooking fast, this stove has WindBlock pot supports to provide space for larger pots, tough high-performance design with a heavy-duty latch, shock-absorbing corner bumpers, and independently adjustable flame control with a total output of 24,000 BTU’s.
In this video, our gear expert Ben talks you through everything you need to know about the HyperFlame FyreKnight from Coleman. He starts out with the packed and in-use dimensions of the unit, what you get with the stove, what gas cylinders you can attach it to, the features of the stove, and gas consumption and burn time.
Then Ben connects the stove up to a gas bottle, ignites the stove, and turns down the flame to show you how to get it to simmer. He finishes the video with what compatible accessories are available - so check it out above for all the details.

Just an FYI. I watched another video earlier where a guy fixed the difficulty in getting a low simmer. On another Coleman stove, with the same issue, he removed the flame control knob by unscrewing the central screw, loosened the brass nut under it and removed it. He then put the control knob back on and used it to unscrew the shaft that goes in to the stove. There were 2-rubber gaskets on the shaft With way too much dark grease all over them. He cleaned this gunk off with a paper towel, then put a thin coat of silicone lube on the gaskets. He also rolled up a piece of paper towel and rotated it into the hole to help remove any more of the factory grease. Put everything back together and like magic, you now can adjust down to a low simmer. Way better than before.!

A nice and comprehensive review 👍 I've got one of these, and some people do say that it can't simmer. It can be a little fiddly to do sometimes, but as shown it can do it. The dial control is probably one of it's weakest points, but it makes up for it by being really good across the rest of the board.

Bought this stove two days ago but had to take back to Anaconda (Jack was brilliant by the way), I was already aware that I would need to remove the two controllers, remove the excess grease and lubricate, this allows for better control of flame. I took the unit back because the trivets would not sit in there receptors, turns out another customer who happened to wander by had same issue and he said the two male pieces on the trivet needed to be bent out a little which we did and they then sat in place correctly. What I will say is that Coleman need to get their house in order, both problems have been known for some time but Coleman's quality control is seriously lacking. We removed two other stove's from there boxes both had the same trivet problem.

@@SnowysOutdoors I've had the same problem. It is the same fitting but I'm not sure that the amount/quality of thread is the same and the bottles don't seem to fully engage. Therefore, no gas comes out once connected (even if the bottle is just connected to the regulator and not the stove). Connecting the regualtor to a 3/8 BSP bottle of gas with the supplied hose works, which leads me to believe it is an issue with the Companion bottle. Would love to know if others have managed to successfully use a Companion branded bottle with the Coleman Fyreknight...

@SnowysOutdoors

There isn't a lot of difference, JWPhoto Adventures. Coleman state s light difference in BTU but I don't think the average user would notice much difference. Apart form this the difference lies in the body of the stove, being that the FyreKnight has a more robust build than the FyreCadet, the trade off being a marginally (and I emphasise the word 'marginally') bulkier and heavier product to store and transport. The FyreKnight also has a folding handle, whereas the FyreCadet is fixed. If budget allows, I'd recommend the FyreKnight. ~ Ben

Is the fitting on the unit such that you can’t use any other fitting other than the regulator it comes with? I ask because I love this unit but want to use it on a regulated gas supply on a camper. Nothing else seems as well designed or as hot as this unit and as it’s designed to run on a 2.8kpa regulated supply, it seems a pity not to be able to bypass the regulator to use a caravan one. I know you said you can’t but I want to double check.

It is possible to simmer & cook bacon eggs etc without burning it. All it takes is a steady hand, just set dial to least amount of gas as possible. Took me a while to figure it out but got it down pat now. Only question I have is what is the difference between this and the FyreCadet??
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, there is a super fine line between simmer and scorch, but it is possible. There isn't much difference between the FyreKnight and FyreCadet, Josh. Coleman claim that there is a slight difference in heat output, and the dimensions vary a little, but the main difference is in the exterior. The FyreKnight has a more durable case and a folding handle, making it the more popular choice. ~ Ben

Eliminating the side windshields is a great idea. How well is the flame protected from wind when it is down low? The regulator pipe looks pretty vulnerable to being knocked and eventually busted. Anyone had experience? High flames are a no-brainer with gas, but a good controllable low heat is where good cooking is really at.
@SnowysOutdoors

The flame guards do a pretty good job of keeping the wind away, Jeff, but you will still have issues if the weather is particularly wild. There are mixed reviews with these and the ability to simmer, there is a very fine line between full heat and off, so finding a good simmer point can be tricky. ~ Ben

@@SnowysOutdoors Thanks Ben, appreciate that. Most stoves find it tricky in wild wind, even with the bigger shields. However the benefit of fitting more large pots is great news for families. These stove do cook well but there is one MAJOR fault with all Coleman regulators. After 4-5 uses the regulators are a pain to insert or remove. Its finger tighten and the grooves on the screw in becomes useless and hard to tighten which then leaks gas. Therefore you would then need to use a needle nose pliers to connect and remove. You will hate the stove after that.

The HyperFlame isnt designed to be a simmering stove, its whole purpose is to produce high heat and fast cooking. Its important to pick gear that meets your needs. Similar to say a cast iron camp oven and a Stainless Steel saucepan. They're both pots, but have different intended uses and functions - interchangeable but with limitations. There are plenty of other stove models on the market that simmer perfectly, so if simmering is the function that's important to you, you would go with a stove designed to do that. ~ Lauren
