Crank the volume to 10 and sit back as the legendary liner sounds off in Southampton, Rotterdam, Bilbao, and Guernsey.

A beautiful sound from a beautiful ship - we miss QE2.

Love the video! The QE2's horn is just the most unique & iconic sound I've heard on a ship. Theres no other ship with such a magic touch anywhere in the world , I always loved hearing her blow her horn in NY & it's a sound I'll dearly miss. Thanks for posting! PEACE!

The flags on the mast are: The Cunard House Flag The Red Ensign The Dutch Flag and possibly The Blue Peter* (*The Blue Peter is traditionally flown to show that a ship is sailing that day)
@TheEmeraldMenOfficial7 жыл бұрын
chrisr19897 not the blue peter. I just checked against one from Wikipedia...

for those, that are unaware, a foreign ship flies that countries flag while in port, as a sign of respect, also known as a courtesy flag. example she was British flagged, but while in Australian Waters, she flew the Australian Flag.

What made her sound as if it had rhythm. Her whistle isn't broken is it?

two horns of the same pitch

It's not a whistle either, I'ts a horn, most ship switched to horns when they came instead of whistles. Whistles usually sound better but horns had more power for less steam.
@THypher17 жыл бұрын
The horns are (as QE2 is still very much around) of a slightly different Hz and therefore a slightly different pitch resulting in a so called "beat frequency" which varied depending on weather conditions etc. Wether this was originally intended or came to be by accident is so far unknown. But in short the horns are not broken. Also, as far as I know, horns are never steam powered they are either air or electrically powered.

The Typhon horns featured in this video are air powered but QE2's foghorn on the bow is electrically powered.
