Haha, yeah actually I've been rapping for about only 3 months now at first I didn't even knew what tempo were but what's cool about rapping is that you can feel you're getting way better every song you write, I'd say one of my biggest problem is to come with different rhythms in the same verse (I don't know if you call it a verse lol I'm talking about the 16 measures before the chorus) I usually get one rhythm and it's stuck in my head then I automatically write lyrics for that exact rhythm I'm pretty sure I've already seen you perform different rhythms on the same beat but not really in the same verse, I'm sorry I have a really poor English lol, hope you can understand what I mean :p

FuMe Acap Oh yeah I know exactly what you mean by feeling yourself getting better with every rhyme you write. Yes "verse" is the correct terminology for the 16 measures leading up to the chorus also known as "the hook". Yeah i've switched my rhythms quite a bit during the verse on my most recent videos on Cadence. But these don't have lyrics to them as I have been teaching strictly on rhythm. Would it be more helpful in your case to learn how to write to different rhythms and transition between them within the same verse? Oh and your English is better than a lot of people here in the states lol :)

Can you do a tutorial about how to add emotion behind rap vocals? Sometimes I end up too monotone because I'm too focused on fitting my words into each line. Some of my songs are word-play songs with metaphors and what-not and I can't figure out how to add emotion behind that other than rapping more hype-like. Maybe a tutorial on fluctuation. Hey man! Really loving your vids! I just found you like two days ago and you give the best advice and techniques than anyone I've ever seen on KZbin. I've been trying to rap since I was a teenager and I can rap fast and keep up with artist's lyrics. The only thing I feel I lack, is emotion. I feel like I always sound monotone. Even when I'm so sure I put emotions and I'm doing different things, my voice always sounds monotone. My friends say I sound good but I feel like they're all just being too nice about it.. Daniel Garcia Good question Daniel. In both of those songs they are on beat. It's not so much the swing in their raps in these examples but the beats we're made with a lot of swing on the kicks and snares like I was breaking down in my video. So if you where to be able to tune out the beat and just focus on the lyrics you will notice that the lyrics them selves don't have a whole lot of swing on them. It's mainly the beat with the heavy swing in these examples. I hope that helps :)

ColeMizeStudios The dictionary def is: "displace the beats or accents in (music or a rhythm) so that strong beats become weak and vice versa". Its a musical term one of my music professors talked about once, all I know is it has to do with having an unorthodox rhythm (basically not doing what the beat or your natural body movement is asking for). If you knew a bit on this it be cool if you could elaborate on it :)

Hey cole what confuses me the most is if i go beyond one snare, lets say its the 4th beat (the 2nd snare in a bar) Then don't i have to cut my words shorter so i can try to land on that 1st snare in a bar? (the 2 out of 1234) I'm sadly too used to falling directly on the snares (2 and 4) so if i try to go beyond i'm not used to it and it makes me feel i'm off beat. I need to practice it more but i still don't get the writing process. If i go over a snare and end my rhyme scheme after the 2nd beat or 4th beat (the snares) Does my next line have to be shorter so i can fall back on beat? Or just keep being late on them?

Ohr Rafa In short falling on the kick and snares is just a really good way to ensure you're staying on beat. You don't have to end your line on a kick or snare because there is still space between the 4th beat and the next bar. However ending on the 4 beat or slightly after it gives you room to breath and to lead into the next bar smoothly. The trick is not to change the body movement. Your body should always be landing on beat. This is how you can feel the swing when you nail it becomes it should be coming after your body lands on a beat. Try to be too late, try to mess up while keeping your body movement the same. Eireee17 Thanks so much sis! Yeah I have been a student of the game for quite some time now :) Yeah after I come up with cadences I like I will then start to write lyrics to them. I may do a few more videos on cadence and then I am going to move on to doing videos about writing lyrics in cadence. But basically I just start filling in words very carefully and use smaller words and bigger words with more syllables to get the desired length and rhythm i'm going for. Hey cole, so to swing just go after that kick so you can play around the snare and go before the kicks and after the snare or even vice versa? because i never understood the structure of doing the "swings" when writing lyrics. Like if i say okay i wanna sound like this and for this to land on the kick and snare, thats how you do it? Just go after the kick to land on the snare and swing? (Hope i didnt confuse u haha)

+Ohr Rafa Yeah, adding swing is about being slightly out of time in a structured and intentional way so it doesn't sound off beat it just sounds unique and different. This could mean you could hit before or after the kick or snares or you could still hit on top of them but add swing to the parts between them. There's no rule of thumb here it's just a technique that you can use however you please. So experiment and fun with it! :) - Cole Mize

What bugs me now is just going before the kick, what i never understood was how to do it before the instrumental drops, like right before it drops. you know?

+Ohr Rafa It's the same concept I use in my structuring lyrics video to lead into a bar. In that tutorial I start my verse slightly before the bar begins. It just takes some practice and being able to maintain your rhythm without the drums is key! So keep practicing the 4, 8 and 16 count with and without drums playing. Heck just cut the whole beat off while your doing your count and see if you can keep the same pulse aka even spaces between notes. And keep practicing! You'll get it! :) - Cole Mize

Yeah I recommend doing the 4 count to yourself as your rapping by either tapping your feet, bobbing your head etc.. yes you could do it to an 8 count but it's going to be very slow unless your rapping over a really fast beat. Liam L yeah, that's usually why you scat over a beat at first, it's so that you can establish your flow and syllables (sometimes you might realize you don't want so many or so few syllables at certain places though)

Hey Lewis my voice is naturally Rapsy, when you're rapping and wanting to improve your rap voice you have to find what your voices sweat spot is and work it to the best of your ability. isnt it easier tho to do the practice cadence thing. cuz you can just roll sounds with how ever many syllables that fit that moment and let them roll out the mouth. Its way harder to find words the roll easily like that. And fit together properly? How come you dont show cadence with actually words very much in your cadence videos. Like show the first way then second show it with actual lyrics.

Mike W lol try to look at perfection in a new light with this way of thinking. Think of perfection as not being flawless but rather complete. If you're creating something that you love and have a sense of completion then you can say "perfect! I love it!".
