Fantastic build-up and control. How you know what's going on with so many cables beats me. I admire you.
@AKATenn7 жыл бұрын
basically you set up different sounds, either a high frequincy oscillator or a keyboard or midi or guitar or whatever you want... and the cables are used to add filters and modulation to those or sync frequincy from one module to another, and then finally to move the finished sound to a sequincer and/or mixer, all those flashing lights are sounds turning on and off, controlled by either a sequincer or a low frequincy oscillator...
@TallicaMan19866 жыл бұрын
I think it goes beyond what goes into what. Modulars are essentially builds that are extensions of oneself. These things are beautiful.

one other method is to get a variety of jams and soak the cables in each different type of jam so that way you can tell which cable is doing what based on odor and taste that tip is only for pros tho don't try it at home
@MmostlyRandom5 жыл бұрын
@@TheHorsebox2 Basically this whole setup is a subtractive synthesizer. when you buy a regular synth lets say a Moog Model D it is all pre wired. the normal signal flow would go ... Oscillator (which makes the sound) into an envelope generator then into a filter (the subtractive part) then from the filter into an amplifier and from the amplifier into a mixer then finally out to the speakers. all of the components are controlled using voltages the pitch (note) of the oscillator for example in Eurorack (which this setup is) uses 1 volt per octave. so if you put 1 volt into your oscillator and it plays a C4 note (middle C on a piano) if you put in 2 volts it would play C5. varying the voltage lets you play D,E,F etc.) you can use voltages to raise and lower the volume of the amplifier (when you press a key on a standard synth for example) even in a standard synth the oscillators are always oscillating, to hear it a chain of events (signal flow) has to happen-- press the key which sends a voltage to the oscillator to change its pitch and send a voltage to the cutoff of the filter to open it and the volume of the amp to turn up the volume and you hear the sound in a modular synth nothing is pre wired so if you want to put the filter after the amplifier you can,. it just gives you a lot more flexibility if you want to hear the oscillator constantly you can (just don't wire in a voltage controlled amplifier and go straight to your mixer.) you tend to use sequencers in modulars to change the pitch of the oscillators rather than playing them with a keyboard. (you can if you want tho) you can even use a midi keyboard controller to play it , you need a midi to CV module for that (converts midi data into control voltage that the modular can use) for the first 2 or 3 minutes Colin is programming the notes into a sequencer with another sequencer playing another oscillator in the background. think of all the wires as the pre printed circuit board in a regular synth but because nothing is fixed you can pretty much plug anything in any order you like and it can have a drastic effect on the sound. he doesn't need to remember where everything is plugged in only which parts to control to change what is happening . if he unplugged all of this he could NEVER recreate it and that is the beauty of modular, it's an organic evolving thing that will only ever happen once. (even if he left it all patched up and woke up tomorrow he couldn't play this exactly as he did it here. its true live electronic music. no presets, no saving knob positions for later recall. that is seriously over simplified but basically its order from chaos :)
