THE HERD - Colin Cowherd rips apart many of Scottie Pippen's claims regarding what happened back in the glory days of the Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls. Colin calls Pippen's version of events BS and sets the record straight about why Phil Jackson ran a crucial play for Toni Kokoc over Pippen.

Maybe I watched a different cut of The Last Dance, but I swear I remember the documentary telling Pippen's origin story in a pretty good light, highlighting how Jordan wasn't able to turn the Bulls into a winner until Phil and Scottie got involved, and spent a fair amount of time on how unfair Krause was to Pippen in the latter years. Last Dance was not throwing Scottie under the bus, not by a long shot.

Yes. Michael Jordan called Scottie Pippen the greatest teammate he ever had. He also said,”There’s no Michael Jordan without Scottie Pippen.” Why would he throw him under the bus! Yeah I saw Scottie in a positive light after watching that. The only time I thought poorly of him was when he said he would do it that way again. But that's not on Michael. That's on Scottie. Even still, it wasn't a big deal to me. But this here, sucks. Scottie is exhibiting qualities I don't like in a person. But, that probably just makes me racist now too. No other possible explanation.

One thing I'd like to point out is that Kukoc was not a basketball rookie in 1994, he was just an NBA rookie. By the time he came to the Bulls he had been a professional player in Europe for 7 years and he had played in many big games in the Olympics and Yugoslavian league. So he was already a veteran in clutch moments. That said, Pippen had been in the NBA for as long as Kukoc had been a professional and still hadn't developed a clutch gene, which is why Jackson went with Toni.

I don't understand this "Jordan did Scottie wrong in The Last Dance" stuff. It's like I was watching something very different then those have this mindset. MJ has continually been complimentary towards Scottie (including in The Last Dance). It just seems that people forgot about all the good things showed about Scottie and how people were really sad on his behalf about that horrible contract he had but only remember all of his low points (that had nothing to do with Jordan)that were showed. How is that MJ's fault? Even though it was a "MJ" doc, it was also a Bulls doc and they had to show what the Bulls did while Jordan was away playing baseball. They showed how great Scottie was in the first season without Jordan but it also showed what happen in the playoff series with Knicks that season. That play they couldn't gloss over in the doc. As much as they showed MJ's good stuff about him, they didn't shy away from him about "Republicans wear shoes too" thing, his gambling issues, treating Kukoc terrible during the 92 Olympics, punching Steve Kerr in the face or his very competitive drive that made him look like a crazy person.

Scottie has always been his own worst enemy. He has folded under pressure numerous times. First there was the migraine during the deciding game against Detroit. Then the Phil / Kukoc Last Shot incident against the Knicks. Then he threw a chair after a confrontation with a ref. Then he didn’t have surgery during the offseason in 1997 like he was supposed to and missed nearly a third of the 1997-1998 season due to rehab. I saw Bill Cartwright being upset with Scottie rather than Phil. If the Kerr shot was made for the cameras, even though at that time in 97 there was no intention of a documentary, so does that mean that Paxson shot in 93 was also for the cameras? If Michael really wanted to damage Pippen, he would have brought up the 1994/95 season when the Bulls were 23-25 before the All Star Game and 34-31 before Jordan came back and took them to 47-35, and throughout the whole season, he pouted and demanded for trade left, right and center.

Interesting. Two things I NEVER hear concerning Scottie Pippen. I never hear ANYONE mention Jordan making Pippen the player he became. Upon his arrival in 1987 he didn't even start for the Bulls and he didn't become an All-Star until the 1991 season, so all of this great help for Jordan had to be developed. Secondly, while everyone mentions how Pippen led the Bulls when Jordan departed and they came a game away from defeating the Knicks in the semi-conference, NO ONE EVER mentions the NEXT SEASON, when the Bulls had a losing record before the return of Jordan who led them to the playoffs. That second season without Jordan, showed Pippen what was like to play with less talent and ability around him because of the departure of Grant and Armstrong- AND HE WASN'T FARING TO WELL.

And to add to what Colin is saying, Scottie always did crap that would just down grade him from being considered a number 1. Missing shots in the 4th quarter or just disappearing all together, the 1.8 seconds playoff game (as Colin said), him throwing a chair across court during a game earlier in the season before Jordan came back, the migraine headache against the Pistons in the playoffs because he was stressed out from playing the Pistons, fouling Hubert Davis while he shot a dang near half court 3 at the end of a playoff game, and some other things. I still have some of those games and instances on VHS tape. He made his own bed in not getting whatever credit he THINKS he should be getting.

It’s simple to conclude that play: Do you want to draw a play that you know it’s gonna offend the best player on that team but can win the game? Or do you want to satisfy the self-esteem of your alpha player but could lose the important game in playoff? Phil explained in the doc clearly, he knew Tonie made that shot before so he knew he could make that. And unfortunately for Scottie, he was right.

I'm amazed Pippen would stoop to this level. I think he's just trying to get his name put out there so he will get talked about because he likes the attention. Racism sells big in the media and in sports even if it is a ridiculously false accusation like the one he's making. My opinion of him (which was extremely high before this) has definitely taken a hit. I'm about as big a fan of that Bulls era team as anybody.

Scottie was a phenomenal basketball player! But with that being said… He was very ‘iffy’ in the clutch. There was many times- even when Michael was back with the Bulls- last minute plays were drawn up for Tony Kukoc , as well as for Michael Jordan. Both of them were money shooters. Michael did not complain, because in the heat of the moment you have to go with the hot hand. Scottie is totally missing the point here. Phil wanted him to be a decoy at the moment.👌Another reason why he's bitter is that Phil trusted European rookie sensation, Toni Kukoc there more than him.👉 Toni made 5 game winning shots that year. Phil drew the play for Toni and, he made a 20 ft fade away over the outstretched hand of defensive stalwart Anthony Mason. If Toni doesn't make that shot, the Bulls would've lost in overtime and would've gotten swept by the hated Knicks.✌In making that shot the series was extended and, they lost in 7 hard fought games. The goal is to win the game and Toni had a heroic Jordan moment, justifying Phil's faith in him 😏 Scottie's selfishness nearly wrecked the delicate chemistry of the team.😒 He wanted so much to be the leader and alpha dog of the team but he was always the sidekick or the great supporting partner. He won multiple championships and he was still recognized for being a great player. He needs to leave the past and all that negative nonsense behind him. This is really getting old, tired, and pathetic in my humble opinion. I'm certain if you ask any fan or sports analyst who's familiar with Chicago's dynastic run in the 90's, they'd say the exact same thing.✌
