Here is the polemic boulder problem in the IFSC Word Cup Meiringen 2022, where COLIN DUFFY did the top of the third boulder not one but tree times because an invalid start.

I think the most controversial thing for me is after his second top, while the judges were deciding if they were going to count the try they didn't stop the clock or ANYTHING. So They just wasted a bunch of his time then forced him to attempt again without giving him time back. He literally couldn't do anything with that time because he thought he topped. That's pretty scuffed imo

well, the rules maybe should be changed then. Right now, the judges can nullify a top in hindsight if there's an appeal from another coach. OK'ing it in the moment doesn't make you immune to appeals. I have participated In a local bouldering competition and there was a clear rule the sportsman is not allowed to consult with judges while not on the ground. It's not being inattentive, is that the rules required the start to be "in control", meaning that he couldn't just slap the starting hold. That is why he had to stop at the start move. For me this element of control doesn't really matter at the start if you have all points of contact but I guess it's the complementary of the "control" rule for zones and endings. The judges' fault was not communicating with the climber and stop him while he was climbing.

@michenerspace7358 to add a little bit of extra context, this is only usually the how it works. Sometimes a setter will design a start to be dynamic. This is usually communicated to climbers beforehand in a competition environment but often involves something like a running start followed by a jump. Thus, the climber can't always just presume if a climb is static and dynamic start which is why Duffy clearly asked the judges to clarify before continuing. At that point they should have clearly told him that it was a static start but they must not have which is where the controversy lies.

It’s absolutely clear that those judges are either incompetent or corrupt. Either way it doesn’t matter because they need to be replaced with someone who is both competent and ethical. Pretty embarrassing really.

@@burneden Yes, we are all human and humans do make mistakes. But that’s precisely why we have “multiple” judges to avoid scenarios like this. But what makes this ridiculous is the fact that they all screwed up more than once. Sorry, that’s not acceptable. That level of incompetence is just not acceptable.

Look at all the experts here who suddenly know how the judging process works. If the judges had repeatedly not count his run right from the beginning, y'all would be coming up with a different narrative. Watching the run in real time vs a slowmo replay due to appeal from competitors, obviously you will catch more details in the replay. Aint rocket science.

I know nothing about this sport but i think the first 2 runs were sketchy. But the 3rd was super clean. Edit: After review, id give the first run a definite no. Needed to be re-ran. Second run might be fine. But it depends on the judging. If others did it like that and were fine then id say the 2nd attempt was fine, if strict judging, id say no. The calls to repeat were slow and shouldve been said sooner but the conclusion is proper. First 2 runs needs to be redone. 3rd was beautiful.

James 3:16 "For where envying and strife is there is confusion and every kind of evil work ." All sins require a little bit of uncaring selfishness to accomplish. Matthew 4:17 "For at about that time Jesus began to preach, repent the Kingdom of heaven is at hand." Repent: to change your mind, to change your ways to believe in Jesus and what he said. Note: When someone ask for forgiveness at each point in the past you did something wrong you wish you had done the right thing. Love Jesus, build hope faith and trust on his word. God wanted to know who thought being a good person is important.
