I can't wait to see this!! I love the shot that doesn't follow them into the bedroom, you can only hear them out of view.... it creates this kind of tension. like you're really there, and you're only privy to as much information as any other character in the film. Under the Skin did something similar in a scene where people run into the sea and drown trying to save their dog, but the camera only watches from a distance. truly creepy cinematography.

I'm glad I saw the movie without watching any trailer beforehand, and days are passing since I watched it and more things and connections comes to my mind and if at first I liked it but thought there were many things I didn't grasp, the more I think about it and the more I search the more I can have a clear picture of the dynamics in it. The basic concept reminded me of Pasolini's Teorema (or Visitor Q by Takeshi Miike): a young man gets introduced to a family and somehow has the power to completely unsettle the balance of each member, both physical and psychological. There aren't other similarities that I can recall but that was the first impression in the first half of the movie

I don't think I've ever thought a film that I hated so much was so well executed stylistically.
@stephennicholas1590
@stephennicholas1590 3 жыл бұрын
But all the style achieves is as shadows on the wall of Plato’s cave. I think this is one of the most superficial displays of film-school flash ever made. It’s purpose is to make the viewer feel increasingly uneasy and then alarmed and finally terrified, but the story is without substance. What morsel of wisdom is to be found in this incredibly painful story? Of all the profound stories in the world that could be told on film...what is the point of this movie? I challenge anybody to offer an answer and nobody here seems to bother. Everybody is dazzled by the style, but there’s no more substance than being stabbed in a dark alley by a robber. There’s no transcendent statement. It’s sound and fury signifying nothing.

@@stephennicholas1590 to me the point of the film is to primarily entertain. To keep at bay, at the edge of your seat. Unable to fully understand the why of what's happening. Most films nowadays have no depth. Don't cause you to think beyond what is being presented.

Great film undoubtedly . Something so brilliant but simple about all the performances in this film . I feel like on paper Collin Farrells performance should not work because of mechanical he behaves and the result should be that all the audience sees is an actor doing a bad job instead of viewing him as his character, but instead I was really awed by his performance and his character and every scene he’s in he brings such a creepiness and makes you feel uncomfortable. I found the stiff, monotonous acting quite distracting in this. I’m not sure that added anything to the story. Just had me wondering whether the whole family and the other kid were all on the autistic spectrum, as it couldn’t possibly be ‘just bad acting’ when I’ve already seen a few of them act in other films. If it was supposed to signify that they’re rational people, I feel like that would’ve came across regardless.

pretty bland and overrated movie, the director seems to be very full of himself and this movie is a reflection of his own arrogance. the story with the greek tragedy translated into some glossy movie full of tastelessness might be enticing to some, but can't hide that their is a serious lack of intellect when it comes to the story. gore and mysticism replaces true suspense and a clever plot.

I just watched this film on TV and thought it was awful. The characters act like unemotional pod-people, the stilted, badly-written dialogue was exhausting and the lack of response by the parents to tragic events was in places comical. The style completely overwhelmed whatever story there was.

this movie is a take upon a greek tragedy where a half god kills a sacred deer and the gods demand that he has to sacrifice one of his kids, that is where the name of the movie comes from. i did not like the movie, it is acting very hard to be artistic and at the same time creepy. i thought the story was weak, with pretty dull attempts to shock the audience through being vulgar and disgusting. i have watched way better psychological thrillers, the director is pretty full of himself and might be enjoyed by some easy to impress watchers, but i think he is very overrated. the cinematography of this movie is not bad, the soundtrack is dull and attention seeking, but weak, the story is very flat, predictable and vulgar. basically this is a movie that just tries to be as annoying as possible so people cant look away - likened to a car wreck when you pass it on the highway.

How can you have a story line ...Super heavy in these "non touchable type of themes" when you can't ask a simple ►WHY!!◄...90% of this is WTF and no reason for it!!!...and still knowing the Greek story part does not help in the least. You have no reason why all of these ppl are doing this crazy crap...and not allowed to ask!!... I thought it sucked and so did movie goers

The reveal of a supernatural element as the plot twist is this movies worst sin (among many). If it had been hinted at or revealed early in the movie than I may have been able to enjoy it more. If a piece of art's sole purpose is to illicit emotions in the viewer than it succeeds; it left me feeling unsettled, frustrated and even angry. In saying that I could have saved my precious money and time and elicited these same emotions by trying to have a rational discussion with the babbling crazed homeless man on the corner. This movie is pretentious and tries to be unique for uniqueness sake. Don't waste your time unless you are one of those people who enjoy things simply because others hate them. 3/10

Right, because you're the one to tell how others view this film. "Enjoy things simply because others hate them". Maybe that's how you see it but not every film that has a unique theme to it has to be labeled hipster all over. And I can enjoy regular movies as well. It can be western one day and a drama the next. A very important thing to remember is that other films don't dictate how movies should be designed in general. The Killing Of A Sacred Deer is an experimental movie and it does it's job well in it's own genre. And people who would welcome a more intense atmosphere, odd acting and just some weirdness in general will absolutely enjoy this movie. Not because they like things that others hate but rather, it feels refreshing to see something that is not so predicteble and easy to understand or watch.

Why tell this story? He could’ve told any story in the whole world as a director, but he chose to tell this one and drag the audience into hell. And there is no profound insight that would make this odyssey of the damned worth the trip. No moral to the story like in a Twilight Zone episode by Rod Serling. It’s post-modernism at its most torturously shallow and desolate. Nobody’s a better human for having endured this pointless exhibition totally devoid of depth. There is no meaning to this descent into darkness. There is no journey back to the light. No redemption to this Shawshank. No Andy Dufresne crawling through a tunnel of shit and coming out the other end a free man.
