Would this interviewer ask a homosexual person if they had a couple of stiff drinks before they kissed a straight person? What a stupid question! And Mr. Firth did a great job of explaining that this movie is about loss, not sexulity. What a brilliant man.

I didn't think I could love Colin Firth any more than I already did until he said, "Didn't need to. Matthew Goode is one of the best kissers." Then his later statement of "Frankly, I'm lucky to get to kiss anyone that young." I just adore Colin Firth. He is so classy. I was thrilled to see him win the BAFTA for this and I sincerely hope that he wins the Academy Award as well!

Colin is such an excellent speaker and he really highlights the elements of the film that I loved during this interview. As a bisexual person who has struggled with both anxiety and depression, I cannot emphasise enough how amazing and realistic the portrayal of mental health and suicidal tendencies is in A Single Man. Colin Firth really does a brilliant job at showing this on the screen as well. Additionally, just as Colin said, the way George's sexuality and his relationship is shown is truly fantastic. It's known to the audience and is an important part of his identity while not taking over the whole film, much like in real life. We see George as a three dimensional person, not a political statement or stereotype. I absolutely adore everything about it. It certainly is my favourite film.

Colin is the most perfect actor for this role! Tom Ford made him look absolutely impeccable and irresistible. Imo, A single man is my favourite Colin Firth movie.

I really enjoyed this interview. I could listen to this very talented and interesting man talk for hours.....most fascinating to hear how much this character meant to him. I thought that A SIngle Man was an excellent movie, and for me it was his outstanding performance that made it so. It's a pity he didn't get the Oscar that year, he deserved it. So glad to see he finally got one this year...Bravo!

Favourite movie of all time. Colin Firth is a timeless gentleman who I am completely in love with. His acting is so incredible sincere and gut wrenching in terms of emotions beyond what people are capable of feeling on a day to day basis. He conveys the pain and angst perfectly. And brilliant, he's brilliant id everything.

He mentions that in a lot of his interviews. I do not understand it either. To me Colin is still a young and perfect actor with lots and lots of movies ahead of him.

Colin Firth gives one of the most moving and intense performances I've ever seen put to film in A Single Man. It's such a shame Jeff Bridges was up for best actor for Crazy Heart at the same time this was released (though Jeff Bridges is so awesome, one can't be too angry about it), because I think this performance trumps the won that actually won him the Oscar a year later. This role is more complex than his in King's Speech, too.

Not a single movie I have seen by this brilliant actor has ever disappointed me. I have loved him since “Valmont”. He is my favorite actor since Jeremy Iron. Such a phenomenal performance by Colin Firth. He gets too deep into your soul.

@jenannvick Thanks for the reply. Actually, "Brokeback Mountain" LOST at the Oscars. "Crash" beat it and it was a huge shock to everyone. I was very sad when Colin didn't win the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role for this. He deserved it. But, in all fairness Jeff Bridges was fantastic in "Crazy Heart". I'm glad Colin Firth did win the BAFTA for it. That made me pretty happy. :)

Oh I wish The QAF's Randy Harrison sees this! He was asked also about kissing a straight man on film, and his answer was incredibly pretentious. Colin Firth on the other hand, had no problem telling the interviewer how it felt. That's professionalism for you.

I really admires straight actors that play gay people. I think that shows they are truly good actors. :)
@TheRevRockstar14 жыл бұрын
@chevychase While I agree that it was a stupid question to ask I think the point she was striking at was that both actors are straight so it's not their "thing". That said, the suggestion that Firth and Goode as straight men would *need* to handle such a scene with alcohol when both men are very professional, confident, and talented straight men (their sexuality simply being an afterthought at this point) should be an insult to their abilities, maturity and experience.

it's cool when a hetero actor/actress gets recognition for playing a gay character so convincingly, but how come gay actors don't receive the same level of praise when they portray straight characters so well? btw good interview

@RubberWilbur On the contrary I thought the movie tried very little. It was just a day in a man's sad life. It didn't have the political or legal buzz that Philadelphia did (but I loved that movie also). They're just very different movies with different goals. Philadelphia was more an advocacy of a right, while A single man was just a story about a broken heart.

Sorry Mr Colin Firth. We are not naive!!! It's the magic of cinema, nothing more and nothing less, and that makes it immoral angels and saints They are simply the magic of your eyes through the Make-up, clothes and elegant script and excellent mastery of the movements of representative and decor is amazing and finally Great soundtrack All of this is enough to make u in the magic of cinema, to see just what they want u to see They want u throw word of God behind your backs .are u ll do that ?

@ichthyornis1928 Do you think so? Shylock was talking about Jews and that they are just as anybody else. And I thought this film's theme is love regardless of whether it is between a man and a woman or a man and a man.
