Watched the film tonight and by chance KZbin suggested this interview. As someone who studied acting many years ago it was fascinating to listen to him talk about the process of making this film. I am surprised at Colin Firth and Tom Ford not mentioning, in the many interviews l've watched with each of them, the remarkable performance by Matthew Goode in this film. Especially glaring because the character he creates is the central reason for the story. It's the love of his life who has died and left George's life bereft of any joy. Goode makes flesh the love they had, the heart of the film, which is that this love they share is no different than love between a man and woman. Matthew Goode is a great actor.

Colin is as articulate and patient as always. I never tire of listening to him explaining his craft. But the interviewer! Why would a supposedly professional interviewer place his subject backlit against a window! Furthermore, against a window where there's someone working outside who keeps intruding into the frame? Even worse, how could a supposedly professional interviewer not have his phone turned off! And then still leave it on after one interruption so that it rings a second time!!! That was just inexcusably rude. I loved listening to Colin, but he certainly deserved more respect than this interviewed showed him.
