Here is what you do: A) Downsize your ridiculously over priced military. B) Make sure corporations pay the taxes they should and not hide money in the Cayman Islands or wherever. C) Lower tax rates on low income families and the middle class to allow them to spend money on the economy. These of course are the opinion of a Canadian citizen. P.S. Carly Fiorina's tax plan was dumb. The reason the tax code cannot be 3 pages is because you live in a country of 350 million people and 3 pages cannot cover everyone. Love the show.

I loved the political topic. This election cycle has me more engaged in our economy than ever before. Colin made some very valid points in his rant. I find that politicians are more for towing party lines than working to better the country for the people. The first change that needs to be made is the elimination of 'politician' as a career field. It's a community service not a career path. As such no retirement benefits for politicians coupled with a major reduction in salary. The government already pays all their expenses while in office so there's no need for them to have exorbitant incomes. It's a crime that citizens have to work 20 or sometimes 30 years to receive retirement benefits; meanwhile politicians get in less than a decade. That's where true change starts.

One. The marginal utility of a percentage of extra income decreases as your income increases. A 30% increase in income is more valuable to a person making minimum wage than someone making 60mill. Thus, a progressive tax system makes a good amount of sense. Two. If an investment has a return higher return than the interest you need to pay in order to purchase that investment then it makes sense to borrow, this is the basis of corporate finance and why running a deficit makes sense. In addition, if people were so worried about American debt then sovereign bonds would not be having such low interest rates. American debt is still considered one of the safest storages of wealth in the world.

I love how conservatives complain about taxes, but claim how we have to live up to the Constitution. Well here is the 16th Amendment: Article I, Section 2, Clause 3: Representatives and direct taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers...[1] Article I, Section 8, Clause 1: The Congress shall have Power to lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States. Article I, Section 9, Clause 4: No Capitation, or other direct, Tax shall be laid, unless in proportion to the Census or Enumeration herein before directed to be taken. This clause basically refers to a tax on property, such as a tax based on the value of land,[2] as well as a capitation. Article I, Section 9, Clause 5: No Tax or Duty shall be laid on Articles exported from any State.

He is self employed pays more tax, corporation tax, etc etc. He tries to make a living and they just squeeze him to the limit. The hard working honest people are not rewarded or looked after they are screwed, people actually try to live on benefits as sometimes you are better off taking hand outs and not working in the uk. This starbucks poli sci seminar is really cute. Things are a bit more complicated than how you put them man. You kind of lose any kind of argument when you state things like all the federal government does is to collect taxes or that everything and every public service should be privatized. The mantra that publc serice is inefficient and lousy is something that I just dont buy. And the only solution you guys come up with is to directly eliminate it. We can reform it, we can established strict guidelines and rules for federal employees. that can be done. But sorry, I will no privatize social security because although you are obsessed with debt I rather have a government worrying about detecting cancer that a private company not doing a test because they want a profit out of cutting my ct scan. See what I did there? I reduced your argument to an absurd? Folly eh? Not much of help? Good, now apply that to every 2 cents sentence you have given us about the federal government.

Well, and if you didn't have to pay them minimum wage, you also had more money to hire one or two more persons to then give no minimum wage to... Americans and their issues with taxation are beyond me. Your country is crumbling around you and you think the solution is less taxation. That is not logical! You may argue about the way to complicated tax-code or about where your taxes go to (a big worry for me too) but a flat tax, where the millionairs pay the same amount of taxes as the McDonalds worker on minimum wage just seems unfait to me. Mind you, I'm a social democrat.
