@@rattyfingers8621 Well done - orange colour I presume. I bought my first serious bike from Colin back in the early 80's. It was a Holdsworth Equipe - the cheapest one they made. I wasn't fit or keen enough to join a club but now wished I had. Like you, I'm 60 this year and can call myself a respectable cyclist. Plan to visit Girona and do Roccacorba all being well. Best wishes and wish you pleasant cycling through the summer. James.

@@CarrieHillFilmsAbsolutely. I will be 92 next week, still riding a road bike and still wearing Lycra. Obviously not very fast or very far any more, but I helped a bit with that by adding a simple e-assist friction drive kit to the bike two years ago. Helps with the hills quite a lot, which had become a bit more difficult in recent years.

I'm just so happy to find this, I moved to Newton Abbot in 1988 & joined the Mid Devon...Colin gave me handslings up the last hills home on the Sunday clubruns, terrified me my pulling his jersey off over his head no hands while bumping bars with me on the same rides....thought I was going to knock him off as a newcomer to group riding...he was an utter beast on a bike and a total gentleman, may you rest in peace. I'm now 60 & still riding strong! 😎

I bought my first bike, a Peugeot Criterium from Mr Lewis's cycle shop in Paignton in the late 1970's. Does anyone remember Dave Bedwell who worked there, another great cyclist, who rebuilt my rear wheel so I never broke another spoke. As I didn't know much about racing in those days I didn't appreciate their achievements until much later. Many thanks for a great film

Lovely film. Always remember Colin Lewis Cycles (when it was in Manor Road) where my dad bought me my first road bike in 1980. All I knew was Colin Lewis was an ex pro racer but never really cottoned on to the fact that he was quite so special until a lot later. The fact that he was still racing, and racing well, into his 70's is inspiration enough for me.

Great film about an incredible man. I was in the same peloton as him (I'd hesitate to say I raced with him) several times in the mid-1980s when I was in my early 20s - he was handing it to lads 20 plus years his junior, even then. I got to know him better, later, at the shop. Perfect gent, hard as hard can be on the bike, a remarkably kind and approachable person off it.

This film I think was made in 2013 as Colin now must be in his 80's. He lived around the corner from me in St Marychurch, Torquay so I knew him and his Mum and Dad. I remember my father brought my first proper bike from him when he worked at Brants cycles in St Marychurch next to the Links Hotel. It was a reward for failing the 11 plus exams Colin was then building his sports bikes out of bits and bobs. My second bike was bought from him when he had his shop in Manor Rd. Preston, Paignton. He was always the most modest of men and I hope still is. Thanks for bringing a few cherished memories back to an old man 76 and still cycling albeit slowly.

Gosh this is bringing back memories. I lived in Western Road and saw Colin going off on his rides some Sundays. I remember Brants and used to deliver newspapers there and browse the bikes all lined up. I remember the Links too. I bought a couple of bikes from Manor Rd and remember him giving me a basic tip on getting some toe clips to improve my riding efficiency. I managed to run my Holdsworth into the back of a Mini Metro on a wet Saturday morning in Fleet St. I thought I was for the chop but a couple of nuns got out and fussed over me for a bit. The frame got bent and shortened the wheelbase by about 2 inches, so I ended up selling it for a nominal sum. Best wishes for the cycling - there is too much traffic in the UK, I find, and take more enjoyment from trips abroad.

Greetings. I stumbled on this by chance and recalled Colin's name and face instantly. I scrimped and saved my paper round money to buy my first 5-speed Raleigh Arena from him for 52 pounds - must have been late 70's. I then bought my Holdsworth from the shop in Chelston a few years later. I'm 60 this year and fitter than I have ever been in my life. I did Pug Major in Feb this year and want to do some of the other famous climbs around Europe. It's wonderful to see him still riding at 71! Really moving. Kind regards, James (originally from St Marychurch Tqy, now Cheltenham).

Great living life story! Never slow down to LET the old man in 😅 I’ve a good crew of retirees to cycle with constantly challenging each other. I’m recovering from an “un-ceremonious dismount” AC joint seperation snd a bit stir crazy to be back on the bike. Love dropping those 1/2 lifers when I can and trying to hold those really fast wheels. You’re an inspiration!

Great to see cyclists from yesteryear. In the 60’s and early 70’s, we didn’t have the internet and were dependent on Cycling Weekly and monthly Cycle Sport for race reviews / results. Colin Lewis and Les West were two of the top cyclists in the UK at that time and Colin still looks fit.

Been riding for years, stopped recently (became too risky in the area I lived in, but now at the coast so maybe start again). Running is what keeps me moving now. Not into supplements, but I recently discovered the benefits of L-Citrulline, and it's transformed my running. Faster, longer and stronger up hills, and can push HR well beyond previous limits. Apparently, the benefits extend to cycling as well (study is available online). And one other benefit which senior guys might enjoy (but you can find that one yourself).
