Colin Thackery - Chelsea Pensioner's story

When 89-year-old Chelsea Pensioner Colin Thackery starts to sing, there’s barely a dry eye in the house. Performing on Britain’s Got Talent in his iconic Scarlet, with a row of medals across his chest, he mesmerised the audience as he lifted his voice in memory of his beloved wife Joan.
In the months that followed Joan’s death, music helped Colin to cope and it’s continued to be a comfort and support to him.

My Late Grandfather was a Chelsea Pensioner, he was proud to sit in Salisbury Square in his Scarlet Coat. He loved having his photo taken with passers by.

I saw his audition on BGT, I wanted to leave a comment but they are disabled as you all know. The reason why I leave this comment is because I'm proud to say that my Late Grandfather was a Chelsea Pensioner , he served his Country like everyone else did during Englands darkest hour . Away from his wife and three children for years on end , my Grandmother God rest her soul didn't know if he was dead or alive during the war . Away from his 3 children My Uncle my Mother and my younger Uncle , whos name I have today . He proudly swerved his Country in times of need , and died as a Chelsea Pensioner, he is now forever interned in the soil of the Chelsea Hospital Cemetery. He passed away 20 years ago at the young age of 95 and a half years old. Grandad Grandma you're together again now , one day I'll meet up with you and my Father and my Uncle I never met , your youngest son David. Love David.
