Mysteryland 2020 | Colin Benders Live Modular Techno Set | Modular Mayhem

This modular techno set was recorded at Warehouse Elementstraat for #Mysteryland 2020.
All my music is improvised on my eurorack modular synthesizer. While I explore many different ways of playing with modular synthesizers, I have developed a deep rooted love for techno and everything related to techno. Eventhough it’s weird to play in a club without an audience, this set felt like a rush to work on. It had been a while since Inhad last heard techno on a proper soundsystem so I was in my element right away.

Colin, I have to tell you, this performance reignited my love for techno, and specifically my desire to perform improvised techno, something I had pursued several years ago but slowed down on due to having my first kid and focusing on my compositional work. Ever since I watched and listened to this performance, I have been building my set up and finally have one I can improvise on for an extended period of time, and it's just as much fun as it is to listen to this set! Thank you for the inspiration!

@@erich1394 Moog 3 tier and a Palette case with some Korg SQ-1s. Check my recent videos you'll see a 1 hour set of improvised techno on my set up. I've since added a second SQ-1 and have little Pod case I'm adding in soon for extra percussion as well.

Theres so much more going or has been going for decades in the world modular, it's a bit pathetic to see this lights, disco, heroism... tsk tsk. Basically the dominant culture consumes everything for entertainment production.

I've been there for the last 7 or so years (had two with 4 years in between). Family is most high, take your young ones with you on the path of life the best you can. Once they can stand on their own, go live once again. New perspectives and unfulfilled wishes may bring in a new sound as a bonus. And who knows, the little ones like dials just as much as any other. ;)

Colin Benders is an underrated musician and this is an absolutely killer set. I guess if he only had a tiny rig to carry around to do live shows, he'd be able to do much more of them and gain wider recognition. DJs show up to the club with a USB, Colin shows up with a studio. In my mind this should have bazillions of views. Why is it that some derivative electronic garbage gets millions of views but this doesn't? Well, it was only uploaded a couple weeks ago!
