Imagine every team in the NFL running the exact same offense, and the only thing separating a good offense from a bad one is the talent of the personnel. That’s the NBA right now. They need to treat basketball like it’s a video game. 3 pointers are the meta and the devs need to come in and nerf it.

Love the NFL way more than the NBA but this is a casual assessment of basketball and gives football too much credit. Because of the rule changes, you now need an elite head coach and quarterback. You always needed those to be a dynasty but now you need them to even have a shot at winning one Super Bowl.” Nick Foles, Joe Flacco, and Eli Manning are never happening again. You also used to have running backs be the best player on high end teams, have defense be better than offense, etc. but that’s changed. So let’s not pretend that football evolution has made the game more interesting than basketball evolution.

@@cfl4286 The league has always had “metas”, and it always will. I am confident balance will be found eventually as it always has, but believe me the NBAs biggest problem is not 3pt shooting. The biggest problem is the media. People don’t realize it but, this “return” to form people are begging for is mainly related to how much better the marketing was back in the day. The 90s were not a better era of basketball, but the marketing was. For example, OKC is building something special rn, but no one cares because the media doesn’t care. The media would much rather hold on to LeBron KD and Steph because they know it works and are too afraid too try something new. Jokic has been doing unbelievable things over the last few years, but the media refuses to build storylines. Pair that with the broadcasting deals and it’s hard for the casual to get hooked into the product when the marketing isn’t there to spoon feed them like it did back in the 90s.

1). Collins 3pt suggestion works. 2). Get rid of play in tournament. Regular season means less with it. Go back to the old format. 3). Instead of best of 7 in every round. Do best of 3. For the first two rounds. Conference and finals best of 7. Makes teams take the regular season and seeding more seriously. Imagine facing nuggets in best of 3 or OKC? Edit: also with best of 3. Part of whats missing is “luck factor or any given sunday” factor that the NFL has. With best of 3. The best team doesn't always win. Which is a good thing ratings wise. Its whose best in this game. Its boring to watch Mavs vs Kings In the first round because we know who is winning that in best of 7………vs best of 3? The Kings could catch some sort of fire. 4). Get rid of defense 3 seconds 5). Reduce the amount of technical fouls let players trash talk. And increase fouls to 7 befoee you can foul out. 6). Get away from a player centric league and go to team. This is the time to try it. Think about the Lions. There's not a star on the lions. But everyone enjoys watching them play. Because the NFL is team centric not player 7) get rid of load management. By severly punishing twams that do it. You must announce that a player is not playing 36hrs ahead of time (exluding a back to back). If not the fans are reimbused 75% of fhe tickets or can choose to go to another game. In addition if a team is shown to be falsfying i jury records. They will be fined heavily and loose their 1st round draft pick for the followimg season.

Get rid of fouling out period. Just make it after 6 fouls for an individual each foul after that the opposing team automatically gets two free throws and the ball. 6. Again you are the money! 7. I like that. Find a way to doc players pay for non serious injuries. Or get rid of guaranteed contracts.
@franjes999911 күн бұрын
1. Too aggregious just bring back the hand check and allow defenders to make more contact with opponents, that will solve the 3pt problem without having to fully move the line 2. Agree with this one play in tournament is redundant 3. Best of 3 is too much, round 1 as a best of 5 then the rest as 7 is fine the playoffs are still a good product no need to change them up too much 4. Definitely not, incentivising clogging the paint would make the 3pt issue worse 5. 1000% the technical fouls are ridiculous 6. I don't think this is really possible the league has always been star driven with only 5 on the court I can't see that not continuing nor do I think its a huge issue 7. This is probably too much but you do need to punish it, my view would just be shorten the regular season there's no need for 82 games. If losing games isn't enough of a punishment for benching your best players you've got a problem, this is only an issue in the NBA. NHL, MLB and NFL don't have these issues

@@sameenergy9414The difference is the amount of possessions and times points are scored. In the NFL, the average points scored by a team is about 22, which is like 3 TDs. So basically if you’re not watching from the start you could miss a potentially game deciding moments. Similar is true in baseball, soccer & such, 1 run might really be enough to win. This didn’t used to be as much a problem for the NBA imo but recently with how many 3s are shot leads feel largely irrelevant. It’s highly unlikely a team will score enough points in the first quarter or even half to win a game, so the importance of that time period doesn’t feel significant.

100% agree. Things sometimes come out of balance. The Warriors changed the game, but the game needs to change to adapt. Same was true when they needed to nerf big men or when they needed to nerf physical defense…or even more simply, the addition of the shot clock. Nothing wrong with those moves, the game got stale. Hockey did the same by removing the red line…it slowed the game down to a crawl and they changed it and sped the game up and made the game better. Sometimes sports need balance changes

Everyone has been throwing out ideas-some pretty wild ones, like moving the three-point line, making dunks worth three points, or lighting up the paint for bonus points. I don’t think we need to go that far. The focus should be on improving defense and reducing the over-reliance on threes. Here’s a solution: bring back hand-checking and impose a limit on three-pointers. Teams could take 5-8 threes per quarter (around 30 per game). Once they exceed that, any additional threes would only be worth two points.

💯💯💯💯💯 Colin is spot on!! Packaging Matters!! MLB was Corny with just Home Runs. Stolen Bases, Bunting, Defense, pitching in entirety matters as an example. I don't enjoy watching NBA Basketball; it's Three Pointers & that's it. If a 7-footer can't shoot the three ball, he's ostracized and labeled a Bust. The NBA should seriously consider making necessary changes/adjustments.

I have a off the wall suggestion! Shave the shot clock from 24 sec to 20 seconds. That would probably force teams to call more set plays and it could help with some of these damn 3's being attempted. Reason i say cut the shot clock down is bc it will force the players to push the ball up court quickly. It will force them to dump the ball down low for a more easier shot attempt. It could bring back the mid-range jump shot attempt back. It makes each posession more valuabe.

Put a limit on how many shots behind the arc can count for 3 points and it will force teams to diversify how they're scoring. Both teams get 20 3 point field goal attempts. Make or miss, they only get 20 attempts, any make after that is only worth 2 points.

People are so stupid. Moving the 3PT back would make the 3PT shooting WORST. The reason why we got so many 3PT in NBA is because the floor is so massive that spreading the offense make it impossible for players to run from helping on the paint to run out to close out shooters. That's why we get so many free layups. Players trying to protect the kick out to 3PT shooters and if they commit to paint defense and helping then driving player just kick out the ball into a open shooter and nobody can run from being inside the paint into a 3PT line before the jumpshot goes out. Free layups and free 3PTA The 3PT should be *CLOSER* not father, but *CLOSER* like FIBA close. Make the 3PT closers so the players can close out on shooters more effectively allowing them to be there to help and be physical on the paint and have enough time to run into the 3PT line to contest 3PTA's. Remove the 3 Seconds rule. It makes no sense. It's stupid. It served his purpose. On a League where the players are more talented than ever. We don't need the 3 second rule anymore. Remove it so the C won't need to be stepping in and out of the paint. Would allow Center to stay closer to the rim to make layups harder and paint defense better without relaying on someone else needing to help allow the perimeter players to stay closer to the shooters Remove the "Ref criteria" to ruling and clarified what should ALWAYS BE A CALL. All refs should be calling the same type and kind of fouls. The refs got a problem with consistency because way to many rules are be ambiguous and allow refs to have an opinion what it is. For someone mean something, for the next one it means other thing. Remove the ref criteria and make them call rules as they are literally stated on the rulebook Remove the gathering rule. Players are constantly carrying the ball and committing double dribbling. 2 steps... doesn't matter the situation you got 2 steps and nothing more regardless if it was gathering or not. That's how you fix the NBA league.

Or just let guys play defense again
@thegrandpencil437410 күн бұрын
You're not thinking about it from an analytical point of view. The reason threes are attempted so much, is because a computer figured out that taking more and at high volume, even with a lower percentage would yield more points. So if you want to stop it, all you need to do is move the line back far enough to where that percentage is too low, then they will stop shooting it so much because it will cause losses.
@js09js099 күн бұрын
It is boring watching 3 point shots every time a team gets the ball. But the fact is that constantly attempting 3 point shots is what wins games. League average 2 point shot percentage is around 46%. League average 3 point shot percentage is around 36%. If a team takes 100 shots, do the math and you see that a team will score more points if they only attempt 3 point shots. More points means they win the game, and winning is all players and teams care about even if it is boring and repetitive for fans. The only solutions would be to either get rid of 3 point shots or make 3 point shots much more difficult than 2 point shots to make (36% for 3 point shots and 46% for 2 point shots isn't a big enough difference in difficulty to deter 3 point shot attempts).
@pmndza20022 күн бұрын
Nah you’re wrong, all they have to do is actually let the players play defense that’s it
@lazzi246211 күн бұрын
Moving the 3pt line would be so dumb. There would be no reason for players to be in the corner then, if you're only getting 2pts out of it. Imagine Ray Allen's game tying 3pt that saved LeBron's 2nd ring only being considered 2pts lmao. And if it's a late game situation where a team needs a 3pt to tie, everyone's going to be in the same spot, the wing or top of the arc 3. There would be no spacing for those situations, it'd be so hard to draw up a play in that situation or even get the inbound off due to it being so crowded. Players have gotten much better at shooting 3's the past 10 years, & now you want to punish them for that? It's like if everyone got good at dunking, then you raise the rim to 11ft. Lol
@ChosenPlaysYT11 күн бұрын
It’s not about what people are too good at, it’s about what fans want to watch. Fans don’t want to watch 70+ three point shots a game teams taking turns in a 3pt contest. It’s not up for debate, the ratings show it. If they don’t address the ratings will keep slipping.
@lazzi246211 күн бұрын
@@ChosenPlaysYT Yall act like that's the problem for sure & as if it's a guaranteed fix. The WNBA ratings went up this season significantly because of a 3pt shooter. What if they moved the 3pt line & it changes nothing? Then what, find something else to blame? These players are getting paid way too much to give a care about a regular season game, Allstar game, or anything else outside of the Playoffs. If players would just play harder, there wouldn't be any need for all these changes, In-Season Tourney, ASG changes, etc. There are way more things they could fix before resorting to permanently changing the game just because players actually got better at shooting over the years. People will complain that Giannis can't shoot, and then also go complain that teams shoot too many 3's.

@MicrophoneHell-ec3bm10 күн бұрын
The 3 point shot is a "circus shot" it should not be part of the game. If you kick a field goal from 30 yards or 60 yards, it only counts for 3 points. The distance is IRRELEVANT, and that is why teams will fight to get closer to the goal line for an easier kick. The NBA needs to do the same. Every field goal should only count for 2 points, and the players will have a reason to get closer to the basket and engage the defense in a meaningful way.

82 games was never an issue in the past, don't need to lessen games. The issue is, Adam Silver was too much of a "Yes" man. The players run the league now. They get paid way too much nowadays to care about a random regular season game or any Allstar games. They all get extra pay incentives if they hit certain accolades, like making the ASG, winning awards, getting selected to All-NBA Teams. So then why not do the opposite as well? Subtract part of their paycheck if they aren't hitting certain benchmarks. You sit out a 30% of the season, then take off 30% out of their paycheck. You're getting paid superstar money but don't even make an Allstar team or the All-NBA team, then take out 10% for each miss. They need to start penalizing these players where it actually hurts.
