After the Boston Celtics won their 18th NBA Finals title, Magic Johnson went viral on X/Twitter, saying quote: "I hate that the Celtics officially have more championships than us now." Colin Cowherd weighs in the Celtics-Los Angeles Lakers debate, explaining what separates Boston aside from one title over the purple and gold. Sportico published the recent WNBA team valuations and the Indiana Fever are ranked the sixth most valuable franchise at $90 million. Colin explains how this demonstrates Caitlin Clark is "the greatest player for business in the history of the WNBA."

Colin is 100% correct, about everything he said about Caitlin Clark. When you look at the Fever's attendance -- it's around 17 thousand per game. That's pretty close to what the NBA's Kings, Jazz, and Trail Blazers average 😲 (Albeit, ticket prices are lower in the WNBA.) But don't lose sight of the fact that this past March, the Women's college basketball Final Four beat the Men's -- by several million viewers. That's never happened before, in the history of television or the history of college basketball. If USA Basketball were smart, they would put Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, Paige Bueckers, Juju Watkins from USC, and Sarah Strong from UConn on the Paris Olympics women's team. But they're obviously NOT smart, and are going to let this golden opportunity slip away. It's a darn shame -- and the people who will be "hurt" by USA Basketball's cowardice, and NOT Clark, Reese, Watkins, Bueckers, or Strong. They are going to "get the bag," because they're all "high profile." The people who are going to be "hurt" by USA Basketball financially, are the rank=and=file players of the WNBA...who are largely women of color, and/or members of the LGBTQ+ community. It is THEIR hard work that has made the level of play what it is today -- and they will STILL have to spend the off-season freezing in Russia, if they ever hope to buy a home, or drive a decent car. Shame on USA Basketball, for it's cowardice and acting purely on self-interest -- rather than "growing the game." Because the U.S. would win the Gold Medal game by 20 points, regardless of whether Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese were on the team. What has been "lost," is NOT a chance at an Olympic Gold Medal...but a chance at a better life, for the women of color and the LGBTQ+ community, who make up the majority of the WNBA.

@@natureredux1957 there's a new TV contract coming up which based on the increases in sales of tickets, viewership, league app, merchandise, etc. should provide leverage to have a much larger contract. @@natureredux1957 Two effects: 1) The regular season ratings between 2023 and 2024 have already increased by +200%. 2) If the Fever make the playoffs, and CC draws just 1/10th of what was drawn for her final three games in Iowa, those rating will be, again, +200% of the 2023 WNBA playoff season. While I agree that banking on a single player is certainly risky, the status quo without CC is a -$50m sink on the NBA. Any perenially struggling business would bank on this single player who could potentially draw 10m viewers to a deep Fever playoff run would be an unheard of leap vs the ~500k viewership last season.... The alternative is continuing to lose money. "A rising tide lifts all boats"

I think if you want to penalize the Lakers for all the stars you mentioned you maybe should also penalize the Celtics a bit for the majority of their titles coming from Russell’s team when there weren’t that many teams. Or just weigh it all the same and give credit to both.

In the last 60 years (modern NBA era) Lakers = 12 titles Celtics = 7 titles It’s absurd to say the Celtics “in general” are the better organization. Pure hate.

Jist because you don't count the Minny titles doesn't mean they don't count. It's the same franchise. It's like people who discount the stats in the 1960s. I can say I don't count Wilt's records, but they exist and are on the books.

Does he not realize that the 18 rings the Celtics have 11 are from before the 1970's 😂 you can make an argument that the Celtics are a better run organization than the Lakers but don't act like without Russell the Celtics are still a household name. Btw it 12 to 7 Lakers advantage past 1970

Ok shove the rings part aside, the Lakers are NOT a well run team, they just take advantage of their brand and the city to attract free agents, every season is full of drama (i get its la so there has to be drama). Meanwhile Boston does things quietly, methodically and the result is their team has been competitive since 2008 except 2013-14.

What if we don’t just count titles? What if we count winning seasons or trips to the finals? Sure, the Celtics have more rings, but when they haven’t had a championship contender, the Celtics have often been completely out of the running. Where even when the Lakers didn’t win the title, they were usually competitive.

You don't count the ones with george mikan, yet you'll count the ones with bill russell? just make sure you are being fair in your argument. the celtics have only 1 more championship and the lakers have been way more relevevant during a time where there are more teams in the nba and the league overall has been more competitive.

Reese said recently she doesn't mind being the bad guy, being the bully. I want Angel Reese to succeed, but Reese can't have it both ways . Reese wants to consider herself both a bully and a victim. No one, black or white cares in school for the bully if he gets whacked. Reese has her mind on social media too much to totally concentrate on basketball. She could play even better, elevate her game but who's going to tell her. Not Swoopes!

I finally understand why so much nba fans hate the lakers. They’re like the Cowboys, they always find a way to make it about themselves, even if they’re completely irrelevant to the topic at hand. The Celtics are currently ran well, this is management at its best. While the lakers… the lakers are more focused on fighting with KUWTK to be the most watched in LA, ran by a bunch of ppl that shouldn’t be in the position they’re in. Lakers currently don’t care about being good, they’re into the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. They Rather be the Harlem Globetrotters than the Denver Nuggets. Denver, Boston, Milwaukee is here to win games. Lakers are here to make headlines.

Colins so backwards on this. How you don’t count the Minneapolis rings but count all 11 of bill russells makes no sense they both should be considered. Regardless, if you’re going to look at the MODERN NBA (1980s-) it’s not exactly close. 5-3 lakers in the 80s. Neither won in the 90s. 4-1 in the 00s. 1-0 in the 10s. 1-1 in the 20s. The Celtics have 2 rings in the last 30 years idk how great you consider that tradition of winning, and i understand the last 10 years hasn’t looked great for the lakers, but at the end of the day the success just isn’t close.

Oddly enough Cowherd seems to be the most reasonable about the wnba right now. Certainly more than the only people espn allows to talk about it (lobo/dreya Monica Mcnutt). They talk down to fans and fellow pundits alike, and even scared Steven a smith and Pat mcafee away from talking about it. Do they not know what’s good for the sport? (Rhetorical - obviously not). At least Collin is being real despite the weird lashing out. Kudos
