The Herd with Colin Cowherd

Күн бұрын

James Jones joins the show to share his reaction to Super Bowl LVIII with Colin Cowherd. The two discuss Patrick Mahomes, and the 49ers collapse in the 2nd half of the game, plus why it was a mistake for Kyle Shanahan to keep the ball in Overtime instead of deferring to the Kansas City Chiefs, and allowing Mahomes a shot to win the game. And while Mahomes is getting all these well deserved accolades, Jones maintains that there's one quarterback he believes is more talented than the KC QB, even after three Super Bowl rings. Finally, the two praise Andy Reid for his mastery of the team, and lay out how his skill at the head coach position has helped Mahomes and the Chiefs achieve all they have.

James analysis is flawed He makes it sound like if they stopped them on the fourth down Kansas city can punt. Both teams have 4 downs going for it on 4th is optional. The better argument will be shanahan should have gone for it on 4th and 4 rather than kicking the field goal. Because if they are stopped it becomes risky for Kansas city to go for it on the 4th because that gives 49ers a short field and a touch down or field goal wins the game.

It was solely on who is the most talented QB you've seen!!! NOT who is the GOAT. BUT he also said that Pat has all of the qualities as Aaron Rogers!!! His assessment of the Ravens defense after the Chiefs won was amazing!!! He said, "As soon as that game started, I said, this Baltimore team isn't ready for Patti!!!" BUT they talked how Pat is the most clutch QB!!! His take b4 that game & he chose the Chiefs & said, "I ain't going against Patrick Mahomes no more!!!" Their discussion was how?!?! By the end, J.J. just said, "B/c one five is trotting out there, & that's why we're picking them!!!" He knew some of other stats of Patrick I hadn't heard before!!! And he said, "It's CRAZY!!! I can't go against that!!!" But this conversation did make think more of Brock Purdy. Though I do think he played amazingly well, his take on how an exceptional QB elevated his stats & the same with the Chiefs' players made me wonder, though they came close to winning, my question is can they can win the SB with Brock Purdy?!?! I don't know?!?! But I feel the same with Shanahan. Can they win the SB with Kyle Shanahan?!?! Their defense played better their offense, & the defense coach was fired!!! What a stupid take. There is a HUGE difference between a muffed punt which led to Mahomes ONLY td in regulation and a lucky bounce. Your logic is invalid. With your logic one can easily say that lucky bounce caused the chiefs to rally. 1 lucky bounce does not give you 24 points lol. It can lead to a td but one pass does not lead to 24 points that's just stupid. Chiefs did get lucky in the SB. Muffed punt, greenlaw injury leading to Kelce being left open all game and Feliciano whichwas critical in OT. Not to mention no holding calls on the 2 most penalized players in the nfl on the chiefs o line. Luck is a part of the game and chiefs got lucky. But they still won. It's over now a new season is on the way

First off, There is NOTHING Aaron Rodgers can do that Mahomes can't do but there is a bazzilion things that Mahomes does that Aaron Rodgers can't do. James Jones is talking like he is the only one who has a pair of eyes. Patrick Mahomes was doing Video game buzz-worthy things in college the same can't be said for Aaron Rodgers, We have Videos of Mahomes moving around doing MAGICIAN STUFF from College to Pros. So much so that scouts had no idea how it would translate to the NFL since it was unlike anything we were witnessing, while Aaron Rodgers NEVER had that Buzz coming out of college since he didn't do anything that was SPECIAL. There is a reason why Aaron Rodgers has been to ONLY ONE Super Bowl up to this point and he has played for 18 years, and that is because he can't put a team on his back to do so. Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes play 2 different types of games since one guy possesses the type of Talent that can take his team to 6 straight AFC championships / 4 Super Bowls winning 3, and he did all that by the age of 28. Patrick Mahomes can scramble backward for 25 + yards turn and throw the ball over your head.

The overtime rule has nothing to do with how they lost that game. There’s a blueprint for winning that game and Tampa Bay handed it to them. 1st You come out hard and you chase Mahomes down Relentlessly which they pretty much did the first half. 2nd You keep them from scoring, which they did the first half. You scores scores scores scores score which they easily could have done You need a 3 score lead coming into the 4th quarter That’s how they lost this game.

C'mon here, it's not like this game was won by KC and it was easy. Niners has two chance withe two minutes and 3 Rd and 6 to close it out and they didn't stop Mahomes in 4th and 1 in OT.

Absolutely Kansas City did what they needed to do to win the game. And my hats off to them. It’s just that San Francisco showed all the necessary skills to win this game except for they didn’t score on two opportunities or was it three and that’s what happens. Mahomes is a better version of Brady, if you leave him any room at the end of the game and if he stays healthy, he could possibly gain the title of goat.

Chiefs lost to the Bucs because they had 3rd string Offensive linemen playing. Not taking anything from the Bucs or Brady, they won fair and square. Mahomes said that Superbowl 55 showed him that he never wants to lose another.

The coach should have 4th down in mind. It does not matter if you take the ball first or not. Either way, you should go for it on the 4th down.

It's always the same. The decision that loses the game gets labeled bad. But when it happened, I think everyone understood the idea was to give the defense a break. Now you could argue that it is a technical disadvantage, and that Mahomes is the worst player to give the last opportunity with the knowledge of what he exactly has to do to win. But that is after the fact. If they would not have taken the ball and their defense would have gotten sliced up the headcoach would also be criticized for not giving his players a breather, not understanding situational football, and being too caught up in analytics over game sense.

No it is when they changed up schemes. Now whether that was because the players were tired or not, I do not know but go and watch again. They went to a soft zone which then eliminated any chance of a pass rush. Just go and watch the coverage scheme after MVS lost those yards on that pass to make in 2nd and long. Soft Zone. Quick pass. 3rd and 6, Soft zone, quick pass. 4th and 1, Mahomes run for HUGE gain.

@@byronsmith3152 No, scheme change can have a lot of reasons, one being exhaustion. You watch, the first quarter. Repeatedly, the Niners defense was playing at a pace that no human can continue for the length of a football game. They sabotaged themselves, and their inexperience in that level of competition was not given adequate attention. SBLIV was a long time ago.

You take the ball 100/100 times. After both teams get a possesion- you play next score wins. That gives the team the recieves the ball a huge statistical advantage that is just to large to forego based on "feeling". As much as people say "I know.." in hindsight- we never know- that's why they play the game.

49ers had to take the ball in OT. Their defense was gassed at the end of regulation. 49ers Defense needed a break. If the 49ers deferred, the Chiefs would have scored a touchdown. The Chiefs Defense was on fire and would stop the 49ers.
