Back in my day, when the Hornets were good, basketball was good. I'd say their championship team was probably my favorite team to watch and the best time to be a basketball fan. Up until this year, the big markets have been bad. The Knicks, Lakers, and Hornets all stunk. Too bad MJ has done a bad job running the franchise, but it still definitely has a top 5 or 6 fanbase in all of American sports.

As a Vermonter who has spent a good deal of time outside of New England, have to agree with Colin. It is truly amazing how night and day the difference is in the amount of Red Sox fans outside of NE. It is really not just the Sox, but the Pats and Celtics as well. New England is very much it's own little bubble, separated from NY by lakes, and the rest of the US by the ocean. You don't see anywhere close to as many hardcore fans outside of NE as you do in new england. 90% of people here are big time fans, and everybody has heard of all the Boston sports organizations, outside the region it isn't too uncommon to run into people who haven't heard of Boston sports teams at all.

They aren't relevant and haven't been for a while. If they WERE the ones to have added LeBron and he took them to the finals, then yes. The most famous arena in the world with a champion contending team in the LARGEST market in the US. But they ARE irrelevant and HAVE been for a while. Plus, they don't even have stories history. The Lakers, cowboys and Yankees all were very popular when they sucked because of previous MULTIPLE championships and GREAT history. Knicks only got one chip since their creation and their history is mediocre to be honest. Example Lakers have 16 championships and hall of fame players such as wilt, Kareem, Kobe, shaq, magic, Jerry west and MANY more. Need I say more.
