Lions fan here. Sam Darnold has looked great with the Vikings, but he's got one year of looking good. Why would you say go pay Sam Darnold when Purdy has had a longer stretch of higher level play, getting you to a super bowl on top of that? I get that Sam Darnold is a higher draft pick with more athletic upside, but if your argument is prove it to me, you can't argue to go pay a guy who hasn't proved it beyond one good regular season rather than paying the guy who took you to a super bowl.

Playoff wins and Super Bowls are a team achievement not a QB stat. Sam Darnold would have done the same thing with the Niners that Purdy did last year and maybe even better because of their offensive scheme and stacked roster. As soon as injuries hit this year Purdy got exposed. Purdy didn’t have his safety blanket Christian Mccaffrey to hand the ball off to when games were close this year forcing him to throw which was a disaster. Darnold is making throws and putting up better numbers than Purdy has so it’s no doubt teams would pay Darnold more. One QB is getting worse and exposed and one is getting better.

Brock played with a makeshift OL and picked apart the lions defense. yes he had two terrible picks which ended up hurting the team. but this whole season this guys has not been getting much support from his defense or special teams. a couple of penalties also hurt them in this game. Lazy analysis by Colin. I’m a big Shanahan fan, but he has had a really awful year with feel in his play calling. Some of that is injuries, but even with that, things are hard to explain. During this game, when they balanced run and pass, SF had success. Then. Inexplicably, they decided to call 16 passes in a row. Nearly all of the passes being crossers that have to be layered between linebackers and DBs. They have a bad Oline. I don’t think Shanahan should be fired, cause he’s been good for awhile and I don’t think a bad year should spell the end. But I honestly think Purdy has been much better at his job this season than Shanahan has been at his. Not to even mention the absolute trainwreck of a DC hire.

Colin you have no appreciation for all that Brock Purdy has done for the San Francisco 49ers. He saved them 2 years ago when their 1st and 2nd string QBs went down. He has done nothing but play exceptionally well for them his first 2 years and led them to a Super Bowl appearance along with NFC title games. Yet, you give him no consideration for this at all and just because he hasn't played as well this pass year when the team as a whole has played poorly and they have had key injuries to boot. He deserves to get what the market is paying for his position, period! Purdy did lead the 49ers to two NFC titles games and a Super Bowl, and so if he did that in the past he can do again it in the future. Also, there aren't going to be any franchise quarterback available. You can forget about Sam Darnold (no way is Minnesota is going to let him go) and Curt Cousins is not a franchise QB. They can try to get a QB in the draft but the odds of that working out are not good. The best thing for the 49ers to do is to give Purdy a contract extension this off season for a midsize amount 45-50M a year and run with that a couple of years. If it doesn't work out you move on from him there, but don't low ball him just to save a few bucks. If you do that it will probably cost in the long run.
