Getting hit tends to happen when you pull out a lawn chair in the pocket and try to drink a glass of iced tea before throwing the ball. You'd think KOC would draw up some nice screen plays or have Jones on standby for blitzes, but nope. Darnold either gets the 4+ seconds he requires in the pocket or he's getting sacked or running for his life. Not that it would've mattered if he had 8 extra linemen last night, he couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat. But we'll fix the Oline next year and then we'll move on to the next excuse. Obviously having a top 5 defense and the best offensive weapons in the league isn't enough. Maybe if the Wilf's buy a pro bowler at every position that will be enough to push us over the finish line? 🤔

Brian Flores’ defensive game plan was nothing short of a masterclass. For most of the game, he managed to keep Detroit’s vaunted offense in check-no small feat. But about halfway through the third quarter, it started to unravel. You could see it happening in real-time: Detroit’s physicality, led by the best offensive line in football, began to wear us down. Our defense gave everything they had. They played as well as they possibly could. Let’s be real-no one is stopping the Lions from putting up points. They’re too good. But for nearly quarters, our defense stood tall. The problem? Our offense didn’t have their backs. Sam Darnold is just not good. Sam Darnold is not the guy. He has been carried all season by an elite receiving corps, and tonight, he got exposed. This is the same Darnold the Jets dumped, the same guy who has been bouncing around the league trying (and failing) to prove he belongs. Yes, he had a solid season. Yes, he gave us some hope. But let’s call it what it is-he’s not a franchise quarterback. He’s not our quarterback. This game was a painful reminder that if we want to compete with the top teams, we need a real leader under center. We need someone who can match the heart and grit of our defense. Next season, we’ll have one in J.J. McCarthy. So thank you for the effort, Darnold. But we're going to be moving on after this season.

@abbuhlcharles40065 минут бұрын
The biggest and most glaring problem was KOC's play calling. On the 5 yard line twice early and he called 7 pass plays and no running plays. Darnold was under pressure all game and KOC never called a screen pass to slow down the pass rush, has he ever called a screen pass in his 3 years as HC? If he has I don't remember it. Why was every pass 5-7 step drop, 15-20 yards down field? where were the slants and swing passes to A.jones to get the ball out quickly? Why RPO's or roll outs to get Darnold away from the pressure?

The Rams did all the same stuff on defence when they played the Vikies on Thursday night football. At the time i thought it was the short week of preparation that did the job. But Lions saw it and said we have to just rattle Darnold and get in his face. The lack of penalties called against the home team in both games really hurt the Vikes. How many hands to the face penalties were not called on Detroit. None of them. It falls to KOC to come up with plays that hurt blizing teams. Detroit consistently rushed 5 guys or more . Someone has to be open. If Darnold cant stand the bright lights of prime time games than be glad to let him go and have JJ Mac and keep Dan Jones as backup.
@willowbrook271722 сағат бұрын
You really commented about the officiating? Well why don't you tell us, how many penalties did the officials miss against the Lions? One wonders about a spectator who whines about missed calls when the "home team" had critical calls against their linebackers and secondary in coverage. How many times did the Vikings miss opportunities after getting first downs on Lions penalties? At some point even a homer fan needs to realize his team was out worked and out coached. The Vikings were in the red zone a LOT and a depleted defense stoned them because they were tougher, smarter, and better prepared.

But the Vikings should have way more, considering just how bad the Lions injuries have been. It all comes down to their drafting these last couple of years. The Lions have had some of the best drafts in the league the last 4 years. The Vikings meanwhile, had some of the worst. The Vikings have a great team, but the Lions have a better team even as injured as they are now. When the Lions are healthy, it’s not even close

As a Lions fan, the Vikings offensive line is not big/physical enough, and no prime running back attack like yesteryear. Opponents know the ball is going to Justin Jefferson too,.......everybody knows it especially in the red zone. Minnesota needs a stud Z receiver short route to take the pressure off of Jefferson and make Darnold more of a game manager. Yet Darnold is not a lost project, make the offense more route manageable and controlling the clock like what Ben Johnson did with Jared Goff. Goff was almost considered a failure leaving LA, but Detroit saw what they could create to make it more confident.

@ifmbm332b22 сағат бұрын
Crazier idea. Unpredictable play calling. Running the ball up the middle on 80 percent of first downs, game after game after game after game isn't fooling anyone and digs a hole immediately. This usually yields 2nd down and long, and predictable pass plays (which usually gets the QB laid out on his back if the O line sucks- see the entirety of Kirk Cousins' Vikings career). On 3rd and 9 or longer, even more predictable pass plays result because trying a run play is conceding defeat and almost guarantees a punt the next play. No way this team is a running team with Jefferson, Hockenson, Addison and Nailor (and even Aaron Jones catching the ball). When is the last time this team did a deep pass on first down (or second and short) or even a fake punt? The Vikings have no creativity at all on offense. Just for fun go back and check out the '98 Vikings. That offense was nuts and they set a scoring record with Moss leading the mayhem.

The Vikes only needed to do one thing to win this game. Score more points.

Call it what it was… Darnold believed his own hype, and got humbled. He should have been benched early. It was clear that he couldn’t adjust. KOC stopped being objective and cost the Vikes the game.

He analyzed the game perfectly. That's exactly what it was and what I saw. It's really bothersome how we could have and should have won this game but just were not able to execute--very frustrating.

There was no point in this game that the Vikings was in a position to win. Should SKOL have scored more than 6 pts in the first half? Absolutely!

"Should have" won? The Lions were head and shoulders better, both coaches and players, in all three phases of the game.

@@BamaScorpio69 right. Like right before the half we weren’t supposed to take the lead and get the ball right back. We made mistakes. Lions won the game that the Vikings coughed up and gave away

Multiple problems...but first. Minnesota's defense played their game. Unfortunately the offense didnt stay on the field enough to let the defense recover. Van Ginkels hit on Gibbs early on was speculation. Darnold froze. This should give Minnesota a lesson. Also, Detroit was holding our receivers. Hockenson was getting held every other play. Jefferson was getting held constantly. Aaron Jones was under used. Darnold in the red zone could have walked it in himself twice but wanted to throw the ball. Detroit did outclass the Vikings, but only after thevVikings defense was worn out. KOC calked a bad game. He should be looking in the mirror on this one.

Great Anylasis. Our defense did our thing, the offense(sam darnold) didn't capitalize. We only got beat because our defense was on the field too long and got tired.

All season, we saw Minnesota just sneaking by some really bad teams, while Lions were just destroying the same teams by huge margins!! Sorry, but "FAKINGS" are NOT in the same League as " REAL KINGS" of the NFL jungle, LIONS!! Not even close!! Lions just crushed them, annihilated them!!

it's disappointing that the Vikings lost. they desperately need to go to the Super Bowl and do something that's never happened in the NFL, Vikings winning the Super Bowl. they really need that. and after watching the Vikes vs Lions game, it looks to me that the Vikings are feeling the pressure of the importance of the game. like need a win to get #1 seed and a bye week in the playoff. I mean, you can see Sam Darnold missing passes and our kicker making back kicks, and so on. it looked like there's a huge weight on the Vikings shoulders and they need to solve this right now because if we beat the Rams in the playoff, it looks like the next game after that would be against... the Lions, there. this is NOT a good chance for the Vikings to get to the Super Bowl.

- vikes have no chance - several key players will be back by then - you can only skate by for so long with 1 possession wins and a qb that can't deal with pressure - next year will be even worse - there is a new sheriff in the north - you don't have to like it just live with it

I've never heard of this Pete guy, but as a Detroit fan I've not seen such a "homer" radio broadcaster in a long time. Simply could not give Detroit its due for what their defense pulled off with Aaron Glenn, especially with Robertson covering Jefferson.

This was simple. The Vikings just got beat by a better team. Up to this point they had won 9 in a row, and are having a storybook season. Minnesota had chances in the game, but couldn’t get it done. Darnold is still your QB even if he loses the playoff game.
