The Colin Cowherd Podcast

Күн бұрын

Colin Cowherd & Nick Wright talk about the NBA Playoffs, new NBA TV contract, the New York Knicks importance to the NBA and how Jalen Brunson's father called out Nick Wright at the latest game Knicks-76ers game. Colin & Nick predict who Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will play in the NFL season opener. They discuss the NFL Draft, Bo Nix landing with the Broncos, the Atlanta Falcons drafting Michael Penix Jr. after signing Kirk Cousins and why the New York Giants might have won the NFL Draft. Will LeBron James retire, stay with the Los Angeles Lakers or play somewhere else? Colin & Nick discuss their new FOX colleague Tom Brady and predict how he will fare as a broadcaster. Colin makes an analogy why Kevin Durant & Kyrie Irving are different than other athletes. Lastly, they discuss the similarities between Patrick Mahomes and Michael Jordan and why Shedeur Sanders is tanking his NFL Draft stock after comments on Colorado transfers.

The wrestling phrase Nick was looking for is referred to as "the rub". An upcoming star is put in a super competitive matchup (in which they normally lose) to put the thought in everyone's heads that they belong on that level. It would be a really good decision by the NFL to put Houston in that match up week 1 against KC

This was a great pod guys. That being said, as a Patriots fan drafting Maye and having him sit behind Brissett for 6 - 9 months, learn the playbook, and get NFL and practice reps is exponentially more valuable than accumulating picks. By the time he hits the field he is cooking, and the Pats have another high pick to take a top tier Lineman and build around Maye.

Knicks fans love this team because of the refreshing way they play, led by their All Star. We don’t love this team because of the names on their jerseys. We love this team because they play with a passion, a grit, a heart that New Yorkers never got out of the likes of Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving. People are turned off by the antics of the vast majority of today’s NBA stars. We love this team because they bring none of that to the table and just plat really good, hard, team basketball.

Listening to this conversation, I realized something I appreciate about sports media: They didn't "have" to talk about anything other than sports, but when they do, because they didn't have to talk about it (society and politics) all the time, they're in a position to allow their thoughts to germinate instead of spewing something everyday. Like, sometimes I listen to NPR, and every once in a while they talk about sports. When they do, it's often more "balanced" than listening to... anyone else. They're not having ridiculous GOAT conversations and things like that. Likewise (and conversely) when a sports person talks about society and politics, it's feels more balanced (at least to me) because they're not beholden to that audience.🤔

The Pats didn't want to go another year being non-competitive, even if it would be a worse long term move. It also seems like they think Maye is so much better than the other remaining QBs plus any in the draft next year, that by taking the trade, they would go at least 2 more years with below average QB play even if the surrounding cast ends up being a lot better.

The Knicks, Rangers, Giants, and Yankees feel like NYC’s teams. The Nets, Islanders, Mets, and Jets feel like Long Island’s teams. That’s the distinction a non-New Yorker makes. In the LA market, the Orange County teams (Angels and Ducks) don’t feel like “LA”. This is also why I think the Clippers should have built their new arena in the OC and why the Chargers should build their own stadium somewhere between Anaheim and San Diego to draw OC and San Diego County fans.
