COLIN....is see 2 clear problems here. Firstly you should have used rubber/nylon washers on top of the Plexy panels to stop any water ingress . Secondly, and most definitely the more serious problem...you have actually made something useful!!!! xD Great work as usual.
@50crowley6 жыл бұрын
Yah, that would have probably been a good idea. Though I don't think he's THAT concerned about water infiltration given that is an outdoor space. He just wants to be able to assemble things outside without getting rained on. Any water leaking through the plexi will be minuscule, and mold isn't really an issue since it's not a complex layered assembly that could trap moisture.
@74_Green6 жыл бұрын
The usage of the nylon washers was merely a leader to the main point i.e something useful! xD :)
@kirkc96436 жыл бұрын
No need, the zinc plated fixings and the black steel will be a rusted mess in no time. You could see the bearings had started to rust before the thing was even fitted. Always use galvanised or stainless steel fixings outside (whichever is most suitable for the materials you're fixing). And use galvanised steel and lots of cold gal paint if you don't like the rusted look and the stains that go with it.

Great project and nice upgrade of the whole roof! 👍 Want a tip? Make some mechanical (a bolt) stops besides the end switches, that way the switch don't break over time. Between switching in end position and the roof stopping, there is some time and mechanical load on the switches. By making a mechanical stop, you protect your switches. 😀

colinfurze I have the same problem with my shed, my father and I will replace the roof in the summer. It was illegal for us to remove the asbest on our other garage because the surface was to big. Then we had to hire a company to remove it, is this a Dutch thing or is it the same as in England?

Considering Englands lack of nice weather and colin's wife use of the shed and garage I think his wife wouldn't mind and planning permission would probably allow it too so all in all both would be pretty easy

Mr. Furze, please consider the installation of a subterranean thermal heat exchanger. In England one must excavate probably ten feet plus or minus, but if anyone can do it, it is YOU. Besides, it will save you money when winter comes and if your summers are too long, it will cool your house. All you need to do is plug it into a heat exchanger and viola. THEN and only then consider solar.

In Denmark building something like this would be illegal in so many ways. Would require spending a lot of money on getting a certified engineer to OK the dimensions and construction, getting an architect to OK aesthetics taking into account any local area statutes, getting local governments to OK doing it in the first place and then paying them for the permission.
@prudhviram14576 жыл бұрын
many countries wont permit without permission
@Oyashirochama136 жыл бұрын
@@prudhviram1457 He has most of the required certifications and can self install I'd bet. The US allows you to self install completely you just need a once-over by someone certified in what you're working on usually plumbers are the best options as well since they are a jack of all trades masters of none usually just enough certs to get their jobs done and sometimes a little more if they want to side-hop on HVAC.

As someone in the UK I can confirm that they is a good chance the council are hounding him for bits like this if he didn't get planning permission. Although I think the bunker did have planning permission because of affiliation with Sky and the fact you can see them co-operating with the developer who was developing the land behind where he lives(see more recent videos where you can see houses behind him; 360 swing for example.)

@jamesbinns88976 жыл бұрын
This is really cool, but you should make the cover out of solar pannels, or partially solar panels so that it can power itself
@josephf1516 жыл бұрын
The problem with that would likely be that the house would shade it, and British weather. But that would be the cherry on top.
@jamesbinns88976 жыл бұрын
Yea, i guess. But it doesn't need to power the whole house, just one motor so it wont exactly need a massive amount of power
@harrylangton32066 жыл бұрын
Solar panels don't let light through so it would be dark with the cover on :(
@jamesbinns88976 жыл бұрын
Harry Langton You don't need to cover it all just like a small bit... again it only really needs a bit of power every now and then
@harrylangton32066 жыл бұрын
Ok :) You would have to use batteries though I suppose as the power from the solar panel at the time wouldn't be enough, Colin still had to mess about with power adapters from the mains so I suppose this is only a bit extra work.
