This is a great scene, why did they got rid of it? It could help us understand Merlin's mistrust towards Mordred and later on help us not to hate Mordred so much if he does kill Arthur.

Had Merlin not known about Morgana and Mordred, he wouldn't have tried to stop them and most of the stuff wouldn't have happened. It happens more than once that Merlin trying to avoid disaster makes disaster happen. He really needs to differentiate between normal disaster and destined disaster because destined disaster he should just let play out. We all know he means well but he is his own doom

why cant gaius help merlin... Gauis is the only person who will be at his side no matter what

He can't help Merlin because this is something that is psychological on Merlin's part. He is very paranoid about it and no matter what Gauis says won't change how Merlin thinks and what he is scared of.
