In defense of the old skater guy obsessed with skating, at least he's got a reason to wake up in the morning. There are sooo many people who are depressed af, have zero passions, and all they do is watch TV. At least old skater guy has a passion, even if it's just one passion. I can respect that. Passion is not something you can fake or get on command. If you have a passion, you're lucky. Not everybody gets one.
@luciano3ccd2 жыл бұрын
i feel that the person you are describing could be literally the same as a 35 yrs old who only watches his favorite nfl team every weekend because he was a d2 player and "almost got in the nfl" so putting it that way doesnt sounds as cool. Still i completely agree with the passion thing and the thing about not being deppressed, but making your whole life around a sport you peaked at 22 its still kinda sad, i respect them but i cant look up to that kind of person as sometimes they just seem to cover all their life mistakes/fails with that "one passion" they had when they were young, sometimes its not even their passion anymore and its just all that they got

I get the point being made of having more than just one interest and the point of not looking up to people like that, but it still sounds very judgmental imo, that "don't be that guy" kind of message. People should just do what makes them happy. If you're 40 and the only thing that excites you in life is skateboarding, do your thing, I'm glad you have one thing that excites you. Who are we to look down on anybody that is just doing what makes them happy
@luciano3ccd2 жыл бұрын
It is a judgemental message because sometimes in fact you shouldnt be "that guy", in an extreme case scenario its like seeing a drug addict and thinking/saying "oh but he seems like a happy man doing his own thing", one of my main points was that the problem with "that guy" is that he is covering all of his sadness with that "passion" they have. Still i think, we shouldnt be the ones judging those actions and, as you said, who are we too look down to that kind of people, in fact everyone is free of doing what they want, but we should at the same time perceive when those actions start being detrimental to people and try to help them. The solely advice of developing multiple interest its enough advice for people to start focusing on other things in life so they can live a happier life in the long run.

Two political dimensions of skateboarding that are often overlooked. 1. The fact that skate companies function like any other for-profit company. No employee ownership. No workplace democracy. Barely even bare-minimum benefits, if any. The workplace hierarchy is top-down rather than flat. Even skater owned companies run the companies as if they were corporate-there are no skater, filmer, graphic designer unions in the industry. I’m not talking about how ‘nice’ they are to their employees or whatever. I’m sure it’s much more chill than your average business, but they are not pushing boundaries in terms of workplace ethics. We are as un-alternative and conformist as any big-name franchise at the level of socio-economics. It’s frankly embarrassing. 2. Part of the embarrassment comes out of the fact that skating has, implicitly, some anti-capitalist aspects. The ‘streets’, the cityscape, are essentially designed around business and the 9-5 job. It’s not built for community; there’s not much open, free public space in many modern U.S. cities, for example. Anti-loitering laws galore, police checks, strict anti-social laws. Skaters basically reappropriate these spaces. Unused open concrete becomes flat ground, or a runup to some nearby obstacle. Marble ledges outside the bank now get used for sport or artistic expression, and so on. The private property gets ‘reclaimed’ by the public, in a way. Cops conflict with skaters for this very reason. It’s because the private property demands legal protection and physical enforcement. Skaters use the property in alternative, unplanned ways, and ways which also threaten the owner (legally, with claims to compensation for injury). This conflict between skaters and the private world is sort of interesting, and looks a lot like what socialists and anarchists talks about when they talk about “challenging the system” in alternative ways.

5’11 size 11 shoe, I got an 8.25. Im definitely gonna size up eventually but I want to get really dialed in on this smaller board so my balance is fire when I go to a 8.5

I wouldn't be surprised if Hater here, had a lot more staying power in his influence, then he's letting himself think he might have. He's as you kids like to say pretty "based" in his approach. (Whether you agree with the things he says or not)

hsahahaha i loved the based use here, as a young kid i can agree he definetely fall in the "based" category

On a different note, I got beasted on insta by a roller girl who was inexplicably in a half pipe on quads. I pointed this out and abkit four girls with green dyed mullets, face tattoos and big glasses attacked me with all sorts of defamations based on my gender. Very peculiar.

whats with the krux hate? i skated them like 20 years ago and they were awesome. grindede them down to the bar. did they really get that bad? i mean i switched to indies and never went back, but mostly it was a availability issue here where i live xD
@johnny80302 жыл бұрын
in regards to the first take- I never liked skating vans but they started the vans "skate" shoes, they are honestly very good, the wayvees, crockets, Andrew Allens are all top tier shoes. dimensions- this drives me crazy why not just post the length?

I have an actual question; one time i saw nyjah and friends seshing a spot and they were getting mad at pedestrians for filming them because they were filming for a part. Thoughts?
@Jordi_Llopis_i_Torregrosa962 жыл бұрын
It's scummy only if they were filming themselves, for their own companies/sponsors etc I mean
