Thank you for talking about whisper lite. I always have to do what I’m not supposed to do and I really want to make a collage quilt that will actually be used as a quilt. I want to make it out of hand dyed linen fabric scraps (as you know linen is a nightmare to work with but the fusing should help!) but I’d like to keep everything as soft as possible. I want the quilt to look worn and loved (I swoon when I see those old fashioned quilts with all the ripples and worn edges!) Thank you for taking the time to make this video and help those of us who do not have a quilting group near by to learn techniques from. You tube is a life saver!

I saw this done using freezer paper to lay-out pieces so when you fuse them together you can just peel them off the foundation after you iron them down. Saves that whole cutting out the foundation step

Hi Linda, that is another option for smaller collages, though it is a bit slippery to work on and doesn’t come in 42” width. But thanks for sharing your tip. 😀

OhOHOh! Your Work is just beautiful. And I love your sweet laughter! Our Family Heritage Handiworks is something I’d like to preserve for future Nieces & Nephews. Your Work has helped me in making considerations for various projects to hand down. It seemed a shame to me that my Mother’s, Grandmother’s & favourite Auntie’s Handiworks might fall to the wayside, if left in their current, well-cared for states. Dishcloths featuring cotton and silken DMC threads, yarns and foundational fabrications like quilt backings & Dutch Doll show pieces. My Auntie left to Mom & me a few prized like her crocheted queen sized bedspread done in a white cotton threading. Gram embroidered for my Hope chest a set of luxurious, thick, softest cotton pillowcases & dishcloths. I use Grams cases on my bed, with sheer delight! For we shared her bed when I was little, they’re quite precious to me. Auntie Shirley too stitched embroidery a set of white, cotton, kitchen towels as did Mom. So, the dish towels I feel might become lost over time, making Art pieces for all to enjoy seems the best possible fit! Thank You SO very much for Sharing Your Talents & Expertise! I am a new subscriber Today. And I appreciate so, Your Offerings! Blessings abound! 🤍💨

Thank you for sharing your family story of stitchery. You obviously come from a talented family and it’s so wonderful to have those heirlooms. The ones that get used will eventually wear out but for me I’d rather they be used and thought of rather than languishing in a dark cupboard. Granted, that also depends on the piece. We also have family stitchery and it is precious 😍 blessings to you and yours 🤗

I have an older cousin who just lost everything passed down to her when her house burned down, Have been trying to think of a way to replace some of it for her. (One of them was a Lone Star quilt) Since reading your comment I think I will try to take some of her Mother's original art pieces and stitch them for her on this foundation. Thank you. The quilt is a pattern of mine for a Christmas bed runner called Peppermint Strings. It is on my website www.thistledownquilts.com

What color thread do you recommend for sewing around the heart before quilting? Also, how would you quilt it? Inside and around the outside.

Hi Susan, I used a medium pink to edge stitch. A pink variegated would be good too. I then outline quilted it both on the inside and outside, and then simple straight line quilting horizontally and vertically about 2” apart. Thanks for asking 😀

I’ve done that type of thing with Vlissfix, excuse spelling, straight onto appliqué mat then onto background fabric and free motion stitch it.
