Yes!!!!!! I go to Alabama every year. Everybody both white and black can throw down in the kitchen down south PERIOD. Even the Chinese food buffets that aren't corporate down south have that zest of the south to it. It's true!! I looove my southern roots all four of my grandparents were southern.

Reminds of the time I made biscuits and gravy for my team when I worked for Sears. There was this older black lady named Barbara, I called her The Saint, she was from the Texas panhandle. I made her a plate, of course asked her for feedback if she had some. A half hour later she walks up to me with an empty plate and I just said, "Did you like it Ms. Barbara?" This is exactly how I felt the first time Auntie May had the neighborhood kids over for Summer Break BBQ. The first Saturday of summer break, Auntie May would cook the biggest soul food spread, ever. Black, white or purple, if you were under 18, Auntie May had a place for you at her table. Lol I used to have a southern black woman as a resident I helped out a lot. I had to come over one day to her apartment for something and she was cooking up something delicious smelling and it was ham hocks and collards and she sent me home with some and it was SO good! About a week later she cane into my office with fresh ham hocks and collards you can only get on base and told me how to make it. Grateful to that sweet woman. This looks divine ❤️
