F*cking awesome epic band, Gales guitar work is amazing and gotta love Doug's voice and thumping bass lines and the drummer gets right in that groove.

Gales and Hendrix are my 2 all time favorites, over the top musicianship with more soul than humanly possible on guitar. Every song on this CD is pure arena rock gold!

Boy, I'm glad to see these three playing together; always a joy to see Black genius getting together. Doug is the better vocalist, though. All the way strong!
@heartywhistler10 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I've always found it strange there have been so few black guys making hard rock. The few I can think of are amazing, or beyond amazing. Besides dUG, there's Hendrix (best rock guitarist ever), Living Colour, Tom Morello (RATM and Audioslave), Lajon Witherspoon from Sevendust, and Lenny Kratvitz. Also, I saw a documentary recently, "A Band Called Death." Really worth watching. But, this is a short list.
@YaoEspirito10 жыл бұрын
Kerkuil's Channel Don't forget Tony MacAlpine, TM Stevens, Bad Brains, even Jean Beauvoir (if you can wade through all the schlock), Skin, and a few more, but yeah, I hear you. And the mighty Greg Howe. And if you like "Death", there was another Black punk band around that same time called "Pure Hell".

How about 24/7 Spyz, follow for now, Fishbone...
@petebraidis465510 жыл бұрын
Kerkuil's Channel Um, Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy the greatest band ever. Prince rocks his ass off at times including now. 24-7 Spys, Fishbone, Jon Butcher Axis and many more
@heartywhistler10 жыл бұрын
I don't like Thin Lizzy. Never have. Prince is definitely capable of rocking his ass off, I agree. I haven't heard 24/7 Spyz. I'll check them out. Fishbone.. I only like one of their songs, "Sunless Saturday." Tony MacAlpine..yes rather good. I'm not generally into punk or hardcore (although I like Death), so haven't been able to appreciate Bad Brains. Funkadelic made some amazing music. I don't know the name of the main guitarist. Robert Randolph is phenomenal on the pedal steel. His whole band is amazing. I've not heard of Skin, Pure Hell, or John Butcher Axis. I'll check out those bands. I'm glad for the additions to my list, but still.. There are far fewer prominent black guitarists/heavy rock and rollers than whites. And this is too bad. The world would be a FAR better place if more black people picked up guitars (like back in earlier decades.. all those blues, soul, funk, and jazz greats!), and far fewer were rapping.

As a musician of 30 years, I have to say I love all the guitar work in this piece, but something about Gales's guitar solo from 3:49 to 3:55 just makes me so happy. Eric Clapton once spoke of Stevie Ray Vaughan being an 'open channel' and never being 'lost in any way' when he played leads. Gales is the same way...his playing isn't the same as Stevie's, but he's an open channel and is never lost. The fluidity is fucking amazing.
@kevinkiso71979 жыл бұрын
It is a mass collection of notes and phrases that do certainly exude and emote a kind of ..... joy in the delivery. I feel exactly what you feel as well. This is why a took up guitar as an seven, right year old boy. Great way of explaining your feelings. Eric Gales just delivers this shit red fucking hot... Love it.

Great players but the blurb is a fantasy. None of those groups, including this one, recorded as a trio. There are multiple guitar layers in play here, just as there are in Hendrix, Cream, Who and other recordings by power trios. This makes them equivalent to quartets and quintets on record.
@jibicusmaximus482710 жыл бұрын
think everyone knows that, mostly live they were three pieces i think is what they meant, no offence meant btw just saying..
@marshall21509 жыл бұрын
***** It has to do with the collective focus of three (as opposed to two, four or five). Its not about how many fingers in total were used in the recording!
