Jamie Fox repeating Vincents words as Vincent for the very first time is almost exactly halfway in the movie. And when he does you are very much still in the scene with him, where he is in the moment. But it also made you look forward and know that there was going to be an actual collision with the Vincent character, and not simply getting steamrolled by Vincent. Its actually quite rare to have such a clear concise "here we go" kind of moment in a thriller.

This movie is seriously underappreciated. Mann seems a little manic, but you can't argue with the end result. I can appreciate some of the effects he works hard to achieve. For example, the color of the cab under different lights is real and I understood Mann's insistence that these details have an emotional component. I thought of this beautiful metallic blue Cadillac that was our family car in the 60's. Under the streetlights in Amarillo, in that era, it became a weird purple. As a kid I thought, man, people are going to think we have a purple car. I wasn't altogether comfortable with thinking that I could understand Mann's perspective. He's a bit of a weirdo that mostly presents as a normal human being.

Are they literally brothers? Who knows, but the two movies are connected in all sorts of ways, no doubt about it. Mann book ends the films with the same shot. Heat begins with a train entering a station, coming towards the camera and carrying the film's anti hero protagonist into the movie, so to speak. Collateral ends with a train leaving the very same station, moving away from the camera and the audience, carrying the (now dead) anti hero out of the movie. If that doesn't suggest the two movies are companion pieces, I don't know what does!

Vincent. Same as his character in the Color of Money - what a great movie that is too!

One of my all time favorite movies! You always know that so much goes into making a movie but it always shocks me as to how much time and effort goes into every detail in these great movies, you knew ones like this and training day were gonna be classics in modern cinema because of how deep these talented directors and actors care about these projects, please believe us fans when we tell you that it doesn’t go unnoticed! Training day and Collateral, two classic LA movies!

At the end when Tom tries to load his gun and drops the magazine because he's been shot, just floored me. He realized he's vunerable and can't control everything. That little move defined the entire movie. I wish they had talked more about that scene.

Appropriate that he runs into The transporter ( Jason Statham ) at the start of the film . Jamie Foxx , whom he meets moments later, is his transporter for the whole movie

Such a small setting for a movie, given the size of Hollywood movies, but that intimacy makes it so focused. Love it.
