I also recommend highly a seamans decanter filled half with at least 20 yaer old port or bourbon whiskey. Or just do some rusty water in it as it suits.

The situation in Europe is that 90% of nobility cannot uphold financially the castles maisons de maître convents and premises. They have to bake pancakes to fund the stuffing of the biggest holes in the roofs. Some Americans buy very well thought of and very modestly these old building that serve as a local hub. Even then it is a very costly affair.

make sure you'll have always here or there a real secrétaire standing that fold open. Not necessarily in walnut or in cérisier. Oak is also good.

I like it very much but only very isolated views. Today this stuff is for the 1% only. The trick is to give a certain impression of chique, a combo of antiques silverwork porcelain china and conemporary items even modernist. Creating a very chique exterior is another level. Most rennaissance archetecture is too ornamental. Search for straight lines in façades with a thiny bit of ornamental deco. The roof (just dimensions) on itself and especially the roof coverings make in fact the mansion. And that can be very very costly, more expensive than the brickwork. Are parquet floors recommendable? Is Italian tile better? What colours fit best on what surfaces. Old stone is recupable. Many many aspects to design contemporary chique. Not easy. I am only an observer. The height of ceilings and the stucco. Also difficult. Do you hang old paintings or do you incorparate a fresco. What about small triptiques and clocks. Very very difficult to make that all match. The position of hedges. What plants to choose and how high they fit best to valorise a mansion and keep discretion frim insight. What driveway coverings . Garnite or not. Do you need a fountain or an old pump as an eyecatcher. Or a water party or an old mill stone? Tell me. How to design patios and incomes. Do you need marble do you need iron work. Not easy. And so on and so on.....

I see the picture of the arches ain't no good. Not wide anough and the arch is broken by a ceiling. You will never encounter that in churches or in monastries. They invented that particular effect.

Cow skins, fox fur, any fur sheep wool is not recommendable in Europe. That is totally against our ecological religion. Nonetheless I like all that stuff.
