You know "that person" who can't resist buying a doughnut or something when they walk by a bakery? I am like that with classics. I have like over a hundred classics on my bookshelf... none of them as pretty as yours!
@madelynstrauss37647 жыл бұрын
Sophie the Jedi Knight I collect classical literature, I have Easten Press, and like 20-30 classics from the 1800s, I have over 150 classics in my collection, and it's all I spend my money on.

I wish I had the money to get beautiful editions like these 😩 it's like £20 for a nice edition but £1.50 on Amazon for the mass market edition, I can't justify it for myself 😭 but you have a lovely collection , maybe one day
@MariaRevArt8 жыл бұрын
I'm in the same position, I usually buy the cheap editions at the bookstore because they are usually sold at very affordable discounted prices. It would be nice to own some nice editions of some of my favoured classics, and maybe that will happen one day.
@SevenUnwokenDreams8 жыл бұрын
Me too. All my classics except for Peter Pan are mass market paperbacks, most often used copies. But that is okay since I tend to write in the margins. One day when I have a house with a library I will collect all the fancy editions.

I am trying to read more classics as well and its so much easier to justify buying them when they are in such beautiful editions. I recently stumbled upon all of Jane Austen's books in a Book-of-the-month-club edition which have close up's of clothing from that time period on the covers. The spines look so beautiful stacked together on my shelf and even though I already had all of her books, the woman was only asking a dollar a piece for them at her garage sale! They were in perfect condition so there was no way I could turn it down.

I am 24 and started slowly started reading classics on my own a couple of years ago. I have found it rewarding. Currently I am reading Jane Austen's Emma. It is my first Jane Austen, and for me it is one of the more mentally taxing classics, even though I am finding it really amusing so far.

I own three editions of The Little Princess, Jane Eyre, and Pride and Prejudice. I can't resist gorgeous editions of favorite classics. I try and find my favorite edition of a certain classic when I want to read it. I'd rather just spend the money on the gorgeous edition I want first instead of a bad one. Classics have some of the prettiest editions of books ever!

Yeah! For the Ravenclaw wands! Again... Funny... Beautiful editions! As I don't have much space in my room anymore (too much books😊) I'm giving preference to beautiful/hardcover/special editions of the books I like, otherwise I read in ebook or audio format... Again... Love the editions... 😘

I just recently bought my first 'special' copy of books I already had - a gorgeous clothbound compendium of Jane Austen's novels. It's a Knickerbocker Classics edition. I do have a couple of nice copies of other books, but they were first purchases - a Collectors Library edition of Arthur Conan Doyle's A Study in Scarlet & The Sign of Four which I bought at the 221B Baker St shop in London years ago and a recent purchase of the Word Cloud edition of Homer's Odyssey. I suspect from now on I'll tend towards purchasing pretty editions, though I'm fond of Norton Critical editions for my english classes as the come with fascinating research that can be used in essays.

I don't really buy several editions of the same book. Only time I've done this so far has been recently when I bought a gorgeous Penguin classics edition of The Picture of Dorian Gray. The other edition I have is super small with annotations (English isn't my first language) that I had to buy for school ages ago. Seeing your edition of Jane Eyre I might do it again though, it's incredible! I like my edition but this deluxe one is just gorgeous :)

@obsessedwithbooksandmusic89678 жыл бұрын
The only classics I have read that I liked are Lord of the Flies, The Hobbit, and Julius Caesar. I have also read Romeo and Juliet but I hated that one. I don't really read many classics, it's just not my thing. I don't really like them usually because they are extremely hard to read and some of them - like Little Women - are HUGE, and I get really stressed out when I read huge books and feel like I'm forced to read them. Reading YA is just a lot more fun and easy for me.
@MariaRevArt8 жыл бұрын
Some of the classics are tough to read because of the language. It's the reason I haven't read any of Jane Austen's novels, though I have tried.
