Great info geezer, thank you. I'm eyeing up 2 massive beech trees full of nuts at the bottom of my garden. You may have saved me a lot of time. Donegal.

Trees are facinating, the more I learn about them the more intrigued I become!

Pretty sure they are not communicating amongst themselves. They are mostly the same tree as a forest of Beech consists largely of suckers. Disease has made this even more dramatic. The species has not died off from it's diseases(2 main culprits), but instead has survived by increasing suckers as the older part of the tree dies. It's pretty incredible really how Beech had the tools to survive its foreign invasives and many others like the chestnut were eradicated by theirs

Hi Daniel, thanks for your comment, it's given me something to think on. Have you seen this article before? northernwoodlands.org/outside_story/article/mysteries

@@JackRavenBushcraft I didn't read the article but let me clarify, in this case they aren't communicating as most are the same tree. Imma assume tho you took issue with me insinuating plants don't communicate. To that I'll say symbiotic relationships exist between plants, it can look like communication, and I'm open to it being so, but it's hard to say if something else is communicating or even conscious. Those things have not even been close to being understood let alone able to be determined by science. To that end there is no scientific research that supports plant communication with empirical evidence. I'm not even certain any would try as the result at best is a paradox

Can the nuts be eaten as they come, or are they better roasted?
@JackRavenBushcraft3 жыл бұрын
You can eat them as they come or dry roast and use as a coffee substitute.
