I just have to say this channel is the best I've come across for a while, in any genre, but especially for land nav/education. You're a very effective teacher

Hi Craig, As usual you have clearly defined the method that I use all the time but have never stopped to think about! I love when you do that because now when I think about it, it becomes even more effective. As always, thank you and keep up the great work!

Nice video yet again Craig. Interesting how subconsciously we do this given any instructions, not just directions

I should wish that you would follow up this excellent explanation with a walk from #1 to #2--by making the treck. Also, I don't know how or why the numbers on the map show the ground is going down. Thank you.

The contour lines are numbered... if you listened you would understand
@TheBushcraftPadawan5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ny Grey and many thanks for taking the time to drop by my channel, watch and comment, it's really appreciated. I have a video planned in the next few weeks that looks at 'contour lines' (i.e. the numbers on that map that you refer to), so keep your eyes peeled as I suspect you'll find it useful. Don't forget to subscribe if you haven't already, I'd really appreciate it, cheers! 👍

In addition, when one looks at the map, 'it' should also be telling you the the 'opposites', such as the 'if you reach the big roundabout you've gone too far' style information. The map should also be used to tell you the those 'collecting features' you don't want, such as reaching a cliff line, or a sudden steeping, or slope falling away to the left [or right]. That 'opposites' part is really useful if you think you are sort of lost, when really you are just slightly misplaced, but are looking for a safe route out given what you know, and the safe collecting features that you can find. (Wind direction is another useful feature if 'lost', as it helps orient you - it rarely shifts 180 degrees in just a fey meters, rather you've just walked in a circle - Crinkle Crags in mist!).

Hi AG Survival you can find the t-shirts here www.thebushcraftjournal.com/shop although they seem to be OOS for a lot of sizes at the moment.

What's the preferred scale for O.S maps please ?
@TheBushcraftPadawan5 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob Mallion and many thanks for taking the time to drop by my channel, watch and comment, it's really appreciated. There's no such thing as a 'preferred scale', it's more about the amount of ground you're planning to cover and the level of detail you need. Nowadays I use 1:25,000 scale 99% of the time, but it's perfectly possible I might need to use a 1:50,000 on occasions. You can find out a lot more in this video I recorded - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKSlonuKrrikpNk
