Handguns were banned in England, Scotland and Wales in 1997 after the Dunblane school shooting. To save historically significant handguns section 7 of the UK firearms act was created. Section 7 is focused on collecting rather than competition with the HBSA offering regular demonstrations.

Which is even absolutely necessary with deadly force at times. People are just going to need to fight back physically whether it be civil disobedience or violent rebellion. @Viktor Sligo gun ownership in general in the UK is a rich person’s game. While all the normal plebs can’t afford to buy a 2k locking cabinet + club fees etc and probably live in an urban area with no clubs nearby, Boris Johnson and his kin regularly go game shooting whilst telling us that owning firearms is bad.
@JammyGuns
@JammyGuns 3 жыл бұрын
@@ironicchungles5912 Honestly that's not true - you meet people of all backgrounds that shoot, in fact most are just ordinary working class people. Obviously you can find yourself in a location that just isn't anywhere near a club but that'd be more the outlier, there's usually at least something within doable distance (there are a surprising number of clubs/ranges in towns and cities too, most people just wouldn't know that they're there) and technically speaking you only have to justify usage with 3 shoots a year. I would say it does come down to the style of shooting you want to do though; game shooting is always going to be trickier and more expensive to get into. But for clay and/or club target shooting? Not really. You can pick up a Ruger 10/22 etc for peanuts (£150), your cabinet less than a £100, club membership probably another £100 (per year), and an FAC application is about £80 now I think, a box of .22lr CCI minimag about £10 per 100 at the moment. It's subjective of course - not as cheap as buying a football and heading to the local green etc, but then not exactly motor racing either. I agree with your last point.

you can also collect guns including handguns with no license at all! I dont know the exact date for the uk,but in netherlands before 1890,and you cannot have any that are profed for smokeless powders only Black powder,there are some exeptions such as some old rifles where the ammunition is completely obsolete.there are still some you cannot have in the uk,anything that shoots 22 rimfire,so you cannot have pocket 1860s revolvers,like the small smith&wessons,we can have them in netherlands.one in my collection a winchester 1887,lever action 12g shotgun.You can have that in uk too.But in the uk they insist the guns magazine ruined to hold only two shells.There a lots you can buy and collect,the only condition you dont try to buy munitions to shoot them,which you would not be able to buy anyway legaly.An offence only occurs,if you load the gun so it can shoot,as it is then a firearm and a firearm offence,same if you were to point one at somebody,to scare or to rob,Even pointing an antique gun at a home intruder A bluff to protect with a gun,your family,In theory you would still violate firearm law. You dont need to use a gun safe,but if you collected many,it would be best to lock them away,as the cost of antique guns is way more,than modern guns held on a FAC.Dont be fooled into thinking,all of these very old guns are allowed because they are too old to shoot,so not real guns. they can also be registered as firearms and held on an FAC,And many can shoot as good as new even if they are close on 170 or more years old.only downside is i think in the UK once you have a FAC,and register your antique pistol or shotgun to it,as far as i know,it then becomes a firearm,and cannot again be sold as a free to hold antique.Can only be transfered or sold to another with an FAC.Unlike netherlands,I bought my 1863 original remington new model army 44 from a Dutch man with a license,And was previously used,for cowboy action competitions,And range shooting at a gun club.so i know it works.But i never have tried to shoot it as i am attached to it,and want to keep it.In reality these types of guns are the best to collect.Because in a case of society collapse,or collapse of law and order,Or a zombie apocalypse,guns that need only percussion caps,black powder,and lead balls,easy to make useable again,flintlock muskets and pistols even easier,these guns would be around many years after the modern guns were useless as supplies of cartridges ran out.I will not mention here about how i have legaly in netherlands been able to buy and shoot some realy beautiful,very powerful guns,without a license.,one i owned was in foot pounds energy,more than 3 times as powerful,as my old remington 44.And it could shoot 500 grain ammo.And its made in the UK,only you cannot have it,export only.

When the Tories banned handguns in 1997 they left it open for the public to own .22 rimfire pistols however it was planned to be very similar to section 7.3 in that they couldn't leave the club. If you wanted to take the pistol away from the club for any reason such as sale, repairs, competition etc you had to apply to the police for permission in advance. in the end Labour banned the .22 rimfires after the Tories were finished banning everything else so it ended up never coming to pass.

Honestly? I understand why firearms are so hard to obtain in the UK but it's also kinda sad ngl, I'm not sure if it's changed but a buddy of mine wanted to obtain a firearms license for competition shooting, he did everything as asked but when it came to the mental health test, he got refused to go any further because he has ADHD, ASD and a mild form of dyspraxia, I can understand why he was refused to go any further with the vetting however it is kinda sad because I mean when you live in a country when you can't exactly obtain something as you can in the US (Yes I know the US has some serious gun crime, but they also do have really good ways of battling it which I support fully but also not so but that's a complicated subject for me personally) it can be rather agenising because he never asked to be given these traits, he never asked to have ASD or ADHD. Quite frankly he can't just respawn and wake up in a new body or mental state that's just not how things work, so he'll have to live as so until either laws change or until he moves countries which he has told me he won't because of family heritage. Honestly I would love to see some kind of change in the laws in regards of firearms and how they're handled something like the US but also something not like it, something in a way where it's controllable but also not a rare occurrence to own a firearm

The italian law of guns is that they are a privilage to own , however a right to use. which is perfect is you think of it. It depends. Criminals usually source guns from the host country, that's why most recovered firearms and firearms used in illegal activities involving guns is a sawn-off shotgun. Because in the UK and Ireland, the most common gun is a shotgun. No matter how strict you make firearms law, most people buying illegal firearms are going to be criminals with nefarious intent. The demand for firearms will pretty much not change, so illegal firearms dealers will probably make more money if the firearms laws get more strict. Basic supply and demand. But if you're thinking of buying guns and ammo to arm a rebellion, then that's another thing.
