Good purchase! So you decided to tolerate the characteristic fuel injector noise rattle? You sounded very concerned about it on the Boxster 4.0 - I think you went as far as saying it would be a show stopper. It’s perhaps less noticeable in a Cayman. I got used to it anyway in my Boxster - once you know it’s not a fault, you stop worrying about it.

I think one thing to definitely consider Andrew is heading to RPM Technik to get their crown and pinion upgrade for the gear box to shorten the ratios. Would love to see some day to day reviewing on the car, maybe a trip to the ring or with a Porsche trip to Caffeine and Machine?

Thanks Mitch. It's great to own these 2 cars especially as they are so different. In the past I'd have been happy just to own them but the older the get I want to experience more and cars are a good vehicle for that. So yes there will be a lot more real world content with the car, can't wait to get it to know it, there is a lot to learn...:)

Thanks Michael! TBH there was no chance I'd buy a PDK GT4, I am not a big fan of the pedal position and had a few near misses with the 981 GTS as a result. I've only got small feet (size 8) and had to start wearing less bulky shoes. GT4 is hairy enough to drive without that to worry about too. And that gearbox is something else. Seeing at 2nd does 84 (allegedly) I'll have to save that for Germany which might be sooner than you think ;)

Well that’s interesting to here, I must I am curious to see how you get on with the long gearing. I have a manual 981S which has been modified to 360bhp. I have the throttle blip button otherwise known as sports plus. Going thru tunnels on a drive to Switzerland and herring the sports exhaust bouncing off the walls is well unbelievable addictive.The engine rev limiter on my car also hits 84 in second. I think all manual 981 and 718 have the same long gear ratio. Personally I prefer it as you get to enjoy incredible sound as it builds to the rev limier. I would be interested if you do a review in the future where you provide your experience on the pros and cons of manual vs PDK. Anyway enjoy all the best michael

Thanks Horatio! The GTS really is the head choice, GT4 is more head. The original marketing described it as the irrational choice and it's even more irrational at 3 years old and close to RRP - but I am pretty sure it's worth it. Next road trip might be very soon so watch this space :)

Thanks Alan! There are SO many reviews of the718 GT4, all pretty much 100% positive and I've read and watched them all (bit obsessed...). However 500 miles in there are still loads of things I've learned that I didn't know so will look forward to sharing them in a video over next few weeks 👍🏻

TBH it was a bit too hot to walk from Chelmsford Station to Saxton 4x4 but it was worth the effort and they had a lovely water cooler I could help myself too. But yes, much better than the rain we'd had most of the summer :)

The warranty might not look after you for a lot of GT4 specific parts. Aftermarket warranties are generally quite crap. How are you dealing with only driving in second gear? 😜

Gland you got the car you were after eventually. I look great. It can be a bit of a nightmare when you have to travel to see what you hope is a good car, but it’s worth it when you fine the right car in right spec. I travel from Glasgow to Listers Worcester to pick up our Golf 7 GTI performance pack but it was worth it as it was a very good spec with lowish mileage. I was also worried if it would go over the ‘lip’ into or driveway.

Glad you found your dream car after the fiasco with the first GT4 you found. Can’t believe Porsche were willing to sell that, even after they definitely knew about the paint issue. I’m looking for a 718 GTS and have been looking at buying from Porsche, but definitely need to be more vigilant, I was overly confident that I was safe.

Careful with the Porsche warranty - I reported an issue whilst under warranty - they didn't fix it - later with a recall they "identified" the exhaust issue I had reported earlier and guess what I had to pay for it. Now the car is serviced by a specialist and not a "dealer".

Hi Jerry, there's some clarification needed here. Every car has a specificed engine running in procedure after which it can be used and enjoyed to the max with high loads and rpm. Usually 1000-2000 miles. This is different to the hyberbole of decades which states that some cars are not fully run in or 'loosened up' for 10s of 1000s of miles at which point they perform at their best. In the case of the GT4, when I was in the Alps well after 2000 miles on clock, I felt I was now being able to get the car to loosen up by extending it full through the rev range because the initial running in period was complete. Back in the day cars had to have a sign on the back stating "running in, please pass' as they were being driven so slow during the running in period. Thankfully engine tech has improved but it's this initial break-in period that the term running in generally refers to.

They are brilliant seats for support but you try getting out of them in a tight space where you can't open the door fully. The car I nearly bought had them in and they'd been repaired at 8k miles. Obviously if the car sits in the garage for most of its time then it's not an issue but it's a car that needs to be used and unless that's on largely on track having flashy seats that are actually less comfortable than the free ones is somewhat pretentious

That's probably the nicest car I've ever seen on one of your videos,👌. I idly dream of buying a Cayman GTS (bit softer than the GT4, but would suit me) if I win the lottery, so that's just about my dream car! I just love everything about the Cayman (6cyl versions), down to the slightly retro (but gorgeous) interior controls & dials, to the size & sheer useability of it. I used to lust after a 911 in my youth (who didn't 🤣), but I can honestly say as far as new/nearly new Porsches go, I actually prefer the Cayman. Not quite brave enough for the manual version though (as nice as a manual gearchange goes, my left knee wouldn't thank me...). Absolutely stunning car, you should have found a lizard green one though - because that's the colour I am in envy of anyone priveleged enough to get have that beauty parked in their driveway! Looking forward to seeing future adventures with it

Thanks Jon, there was zero chance I was going to buy Pinky so back to Autotrader I went and this one didn't have any compromises over what I wanted. I looked up to £85k and couldn't find another that did the same. So I didn't have to be that patient but I always think about what if I have to sell and seems like I have higher standards than some Porsche main dealers of if patience was needed, I'd have happily waited.

Thanks kratos! Yes indeed, I studied the pics in great detail and wasn't really convinced until I saw it in the showroom. I think the phone footage from the showroom is most representative, out in the sun it looks a bit too orange on camera but in the metal is, as you say the best way to see it.

Thanks Dom. I didn't push Porsche on it but it was inferred any electrical issues could be argued could be down to the battery. On plus side once theirs is fitted and car is running OK, any subsequent electrical issues they will cover. Nice having a spare battery anyway at this time of year, it's already revived an elderly member of the fleet :)
