Collecting my new Motability Lease car why did I go 225 miles from home by taxi?

Today I collect my new Motability lease car. My first Motability car was a black Mini 1000 in 1978. I returned my Motability leased Mini EV in the summer of 2023. Today I’m taking a taxi 225 miles to Bridgewater in Somerset because this is the only place where I can get the car that I want. The Mini Convertible has now (June 2024), ceased production, so you can no longer order one. You can only buy one from stock. Just under 200 left when I ordered mine. I didn’t want a black leather interior. I wanted white and I wanted metallic blue paint and the only garage in the country that has that spec was in Vertu in Bridgwater. With the Motability lease scheme you have to be on site with the dealer to sign the lease. They cannot deliver the car until you’ve inspected it and signed for it, so there’s no choice but to take this long trip the taxi cost £363.00, but it proved to be great value. Congratulations Roger. My Mini dealer up here in Stirling had a huge delivery of their entire allocation of 2024 Convertibles in March - they still have a few left including the BEV convertible that arrived in early 23 unsold……… I took delivery of a BEV Countrymen S E Sport L3 on 9th April and loving it. Will be taking my first EV road trip to Harrogate from Stirling in it next week - Plan A reckons I need 1 charge stop on the way south, a top up before leaving Harrogate to come home and another stop somewhere on the way home. If I had done it last year in the Cooper S E would have been 3 charges each way so I went by diesel power in the `defender instead iwith zero fuel stops.

Enjoy We collected my wife's first motorbility car in March. A hyundai kona N line s EV. was surprised we could choose any available colour for no extra charge, so metallic red it is. Took 3 weeks from order to delivery, they came and fitted a wall charger free of charge before it arrived. On the day my wife was unwell and they were happy for me to collect it and take an e signature from Tina. Almost seems wrong to be given the keys to a £43'000 car and we only paid a £1'500 excess (dead money, but its our first and I work,so why not). 428 miles in so far and it wonderfull.
