We love your channel - you re talking about everything we are interested in and have given us a crush on your beautiful Brahmas. For us a little food-grade DE diatomaceous earth in their feed, coop, dust baths, and nests takes care of mites and gives us spotless perfect eggs - no more washing eggs. Then we just handle them euro style keep them dry, unrefrigerated to preserve the "bloom" on the shells. They stay good in the kitchen for weeks. We are always looking for a lower tech approach. Thanks so much!

Hello! I’m so grateful for you’re videos. I’m not new to chickens, but new to hatching eggs. I ordered some bearded silkie eggs from New York and hope to get them next week by fed X. Very excited to see how things go with my first batch. It’s been difficult for me to find turkey eggs, but I purchased 2 incubators. I enjoy raising Australorps and would like to utilize my silkies for hatching other bird eggs as well as having an unusual breed on my little homestead. Again, thank you for creating and sharing your videos, Sister Honesteader😉🐔🐣🐣🐣

Thanks, very clear, I'll try it out as soon as I get my quality 56 egg incubator made in England as I will need to store eggs for 7-10 days to accumulate sufficient fertile eggs for incubating.

I liked the simple way you showed for this process Thank you for sharing the knowledge Every thing should be less complicated,like i mean in nature things happens in simple process...with no machinery etc..chicken just sits on eggs,rotates egss....and yes here they are...small chicks in nest😊 Thanks for sharing simple process

Hello. If you had ONLY two choices of 99 degrees Fahrenheit OR 100 degrees Fahrenheit on your forced air incubator which would you choose for Mandarin duck eggs?

Hi there! Do you have any tips on how to pick out which eggs are 'hatchable'? Are you candling all of them first?
@ChickenHues2 жыл бұрын
I look for clean eggs. I don’t candle them before I put them in. My incubator holds so many eggs that it isn’t a big deal if some don’t develop.

So I live in west texas and it gets hot down here so putting them in the garage is not an option for me..will they do fine in normal room temperature when stored?..say about 75 78 degrees? Thanks for the tips
@ChickenHues2 жыл бұрын
A cooler room would be better. They will be ok at those temps, but fertility may start to drop sooner.

What happens if I set my incubator and there's not power for a whole day, would that ruin the eggs or not? I have that problem in my country, we have a lot of power cuts.
@ChickenHues6 жыл бұрын
It would probably be ok as Long as it only Happened once or Maybe twice. Could you throw blankets over it or add some kind Of heat source (hot water bottles) in for those time? The hatch would be delayed at least.
@lancechris.25926 жыл бұрын
Yeah, thanks.. it's just that sometimes in my town there isn't power for a whole day and I was thinking if it's bad for the eggs to be cold for a whole day, I could try to keep them warm with hot blankets and stuff but the temperature is unstable. I just wanted to know if being without the right temperature for a whole day wouldn't kill the chickens. Thank you so much!
@ChickenHues6 жыл бұрын
One day shouldn't kill them. I had eggs get mixed up and not under a hen for a full 24 hours and they were fine - even in chilly weather. It could be a problem if it happens regularly, though.

Stacy, where do you sell your chicks, and how many do you keep each hatch?
@ChickenHues4 жыл бұрын
Hi Julie. I just sell my chicks locally through FB or Craigslist. How many I keep depends on my plans. Tanks for watching!

How long do you leave your eggs on an angle? First timer here!
@ChickenHues4 жыл бұрын
I leave then that way until I put them in the incubator. I turn is around twice a day - so the other end is tipped up to rotate them.

How long can you store the eggs you plan to hatch before you have to put them in the incubator?

After a week or two the fertility will start to drop. But I’ve incubated eggs up to 3 weeks old before.

Could storing eggs in refrigerator may make it unfit for hatching??
@ChickenHues6 жыл бұрын
Yes. I wouldn't recommend it, although I've heard of eggs still hatching. It probably depends on the length of time they're stored in the refrigerator.
@cameronm61165 жыл бұрын
A clean nest box does not always guarantee a clean egg. If you have happy chickens who are healthy, your eggs will be cleaner and better for hatching and eating. But nonetheless, I loved your video!

My husband watches you channel and said that maybe you can suggest something. This morning my sweet Brahma is having a hard time walking. No sores, putting very little weight on her foot. From past posts I am thinking she may need niacin. If so is it a liquid or powder, is niacin in a bottle by its self marked niacin? And best place to buy it? I live in a small town that has a feed store and Walmart. Tractor supply is 45 miles from home. She is currently in my bathtub. Thanks in advance
@ChickenHues6 жыл бұрын
Disclaimer.... lol. Seriously, I’m sorry she’s having trouble. I’m not sure - hopefully it’s just a sprain? My go-to is Nutri-Drench, which is a vitamin supplement. You’re feed store may have it and it probably contains niacin. I’d suggest also giving her some scrambled eggs with some of that (diluted with water to tea color) mixed in. Then you can see how her droppings look and whether it looks like an injury or illness. 😀. I hope she starts doing better.
@rickterry99376 жыл бұрын
Chicken Hues thanks so much!!!! I have to go to town anyways. Nutri drench....that’s the other stuff I couldn’t remember name of. Thanks!!! Disclaimer...I don’t know anything medical about chickens, that’s why I always post my questions. Lol

LOL Is she doing any better? Does it just seem like she injured her foot or leg?
@rickterry99376 жыл бұрын
Chicken Hues good morning. Yes it seems she just hurt it. I have her in a dog kennel for the last couple days. She’s not happy about it but she’s laying down resting. Inhaled then scrambled egg I gave her. Thanks so much for the advice.

I hope the break and the special treats give her the rest she needs and gets her back on her "feet". Literally!
