Amazing that these were just 2lbs of bees and you were able to pull honey off. Must be the drawn frames that you used. Glad the BC bees are doing well. Thx for sharing.

It’s so great to see your success! I’m curious what happens to the bees when you’ve taken off the honey supers? Do the brood boxes become over crowded, and try to swarm?

That surge of old field bees will die off in 2 weeks, then it’s a crowded nest with young bees to build out the winter nest

I wonder how long the mites live? If you have 3% with all those bees and as the foragers die do some mites move to younger bees and then the % goes up with less bees ?

Nice seeing your nuc battery catching a late flow they definitely need that to get right.. holy shit they took off . you must of boosted them good . . built mine month ago hopefully get them big enough for good goldenrod flow.. VSH strains kinda threw wrench in getting them queen right but I'm working thru it. They won't even except cells from different strains. Anything different they remove.. im about 75% latshaw strains they just won't mix with the vsh strains . I'll sell the VSH strains next spring as over wintered nucs..

I wondered about an idea. What if, on the top of the honey towers, you tossed a queen excluder on, a box with some brood comb and a new candy caged queen. Leave it for a week, than do a walk away split of the top.

@@luellapeters9158 I had all kinds of drawn comb. I made splits off of them to knock them back in May, put honey supers on early with drawn comb and all of them swarmed or I had to pull the queens with brood to make more nucs which I didn't want.

I have my 1st two hives and had one out at a farm and they were just bringing in so much but my city colony has basically nothing.

Ian, have you spent time thinking about your mite treatment method for this fall yet? I did Oxalic vapor only, spring and fall the past years. I will change it up with formicpro AND a couple of shots of Oxalic this fall. I know your take on formic acid is probably with mixed feelings after your spring experience. I hope it will turn out better for me...fingers crossed.

One above the eye one in the lip so i put on my veil for the first ttime this year and then got one in the ear😅 😢 Shaking the bees off frames and brushing the last couple off whie taking off honey seems to make them irritable .😂
