Maybe it's just me. But... Some of your narrative at this point is difficult to follow. I get it. Beekeeping ~ Not my thing. ~But~ I think I've got the vocabulary: Patties, Rocket Fuel, Bacteria, Karrie's Queens, Knocking them off, Too Strong and too old. Striping off the boxes. Presence of brilliance ~ Intense Robbing Pressure. Strips~ Patties ~Pails. Etc. So exciting ~. I just know that my field of Zinnia flowers have a bee on every bloom! I know of a couple of neighbors with bees but not close by. August 30, New Hampshire. Wow! So cool. Thank you so much for this. ✨

You are watching the Premier Manitoban Bee Wrangler Mr. Ian Steppler of Steppler Farms ! With 2200+ beehives knocked down to about 2000 or 1800 boxes for Winter storage shed with -40degC harsh Manitoban Winters. These IceField Aptoides colonies can survive these frigid temps to once again emerge in March-April raring to go ! RocketFuel is his special secret-sauce Pollen feed that he gets specially made for him that explodes his colonies in less than two weeks from few bees to gobs gobs of bees in no time. Sunflower/Canola are the main crops that these Artic Apiary Swarms feed on during the "summer" months. Then back to syrupy feed buckets for rest of their outdoor life. Oxalic acid vapour or Formic acid vapour treatments are for Varroa Mite control and I believe he has anti-viral for Foul-brood and other viral infection avoidance. There is something called Hive-beetles that affect bee larvae and brood comb but I dunno what treatment for that could be. Dearth is the time when all seasonal flowers are pollinated and no longer producing pollen or nectar. Hence bees try to get sugars from anywhere and anything including "robbing" by going into unprotected hives. So Mr. Ian duct-tapes any beehive boxes that have gaps or holes in them. Winterizing is when all that green pasture and meadows suddenly turn into ice-fields and snow-drifts and temps plunge to -40degC in manitoba. So all the bees need to shart themselves and load up with syrup and winter-compatible honey stores. Recent issues with canola-honey stores in some of the hives causing crystallization and becoming useless to bees hunkering down in freezing temps. Mr. Ian is a Bee Scientist at the cutting edge of Honey farming and production! We all learn and grow from his method to all the Bee madness 😀

Still have a crazy nectar flow in the North Cariboo BC. A lot of farmers not cutting their final alfalfa crop and we have had enough moisture to keep it running with whatever else is out there. Knocked them down and had bottom boxes plugged instantly so added some supers again and will have some extra honey but Monday is final cut off for Apivar i am finding mites scared even leaving it this long but maybe we get a longer fall they seem to be more common recently. I did do a formic treatment here 2 pads and can definitively say it did not kill mites under the capped brood....

Ian, Which do you like better.... The 6 fr nucs (3 x side) or the 5 frame nucs (4 by side) with Supers over. Which seems to over Winter better for you. I think you should make a VIDEO on this as it is great info. FYI Milwaukee makes a smaller blower too if you are looking to save on space. Works good, just a little weaker then the big ones but shorter nozzle makes it easier.

Hi. I don't understand how you manage to get 6 frames of brood in colonies, at this time I have from 2 to 4 frames. Do you have a video on this topic? With best wishes

That's a lot of bees going back in the box. I know it's super late but are you prone to late swarms driving them I to a single with such a large amount of bees? We are about to start our big honey pull here in Nova Scotia. Goldenrod just finishing. Cheers

Letting them rob out the honey frames, don't they tear up the wax? I've done that but they really chew ip the wax. I'm a hobbyist with 9 colonies.

Ian…. curiosity Q…. Do you have a rough number on how many pounds of wax do you get from a super or from a hive in an average season? Also…. Do you sell it all or use some to coat the replacement foundation?

That is fascinating! That means from a 100lb honey hive , get only about a 1-1 1/2 lb of wax….. no wonder I’m always running out of wax for my new foundation.
