That Evo was clean, but 42k is pretty steep. 42k is low miles SRT 392 territory. Almost new. You could get a current gen Camaro SS for less. Even C7 stingray wouldn't be that much more. There are factory stock VA Chassis STI's out there for 42k if not less. You could look around, I'm sure you could find a MK5 GR Supra for around 42k

4:52 as I am to understand it the 5-speed manual transmission in the WRX of that generation was the same transmission Subaru put in their regular Passenger cars and would always blow up. If you're going to get an STI of that generation the six-speed manual is fine.

So I actually bought the last evo in the video. It was in Yorktown VA, and when I showed up it was actually in better shape than the pictures. Air Force kid had it and needed a daily because he just had a kid, and didn’t have the time or funds to fix this with all it needed. Paid way less than asking , drove the car on my trailer. the clutch was slipping, and yeah suspension was completely fucked. The rust in the rear quarter was just on the surface, hadn’t turned to rot yet and was the only rust anywhere on the car. However there was a lot more to the car than advertised, and the motor did have Manley rods pistons and crank and was in amazing shape. It’s currently torn down in my shop in Chesapeake getting a full makeover along with an Evo9 I have as well. Oh and I’ve got a few Subarus as well 😅

I pick Subarus because for one I own one, and you can't beat the price on most of them. Also I got the LLBean steering wheel cause it's got real woodgrain, gotta feel a little lux lol. And idk why most of these car owners have terrible taste in rims, just get OEM+ or something reputable like BBS or Prodrive for instance.

Unfair coomparison. Sti trim is the one that competes with the evo , not the regular wrx. Wrx will most likely be the best bargain against an evo everytime , but against sti's only, this would have gone the other way.

STI vs EVO is a better compare. A WRX is worth a lot less. I have a 2005 STI in good shape and mostly stock. It’s worth about 16-18k if it was a WRX it would be worth around 6-8k.

The WRX prices are a cosmic downpayment. It's cheap to get into them, but you be paying in instalments for everything that's gonna break in the powertrain. I much rather pay $23k upfront and know I'm in a good car that isn't gonna give me any issues.

It really comes down to “Which owner fucked their car the least” and unfortunately with these markets, that means gimme gimme gimme. I’ve still been paying attention to the usual things in culture and car markets, but between the prices and the dickheads driving them, I’ve got a distaste for trying to pick up another project. Like ‘no low ballers’ and obo offers on cars that shit the bed and laid in it for the last 25 years. Good examples if you don’t know someone who knows a guy, won’t even give you a chance to know about private sales. It’s just a lot of sitting around for nothing. If i’m going to buy a car that perma-bans rod 3 on my 100th mile. I’d rather pay less money. So the Wrxs, and Stis have to been a better choice for now. Now lastly, in my opinion, once you get into sti territory, (again this is opinion from what i’ve seen with my own eyes) they tend to hold up a little better than their counterpart, and has a lot of interchangeable parts both in and out. Subarus sold more and were more accessible, so there plainly just IS more. But who cares… Porsches are 300k so, Ive got other shit to cry about.
