Very useful info, Chris! Thanks for the pointers. Around 2007, Harrison was signing for free at a local bank. I asked him to autograph a photo that I told him would be a reward for the student who earned the highest score on a test that week (he liked that idea). He also signed one for me. Very nice guy! Also super tough looking!!!

James Harrison is an interesting person in terms of cards. His rookie season was 2003 but his first appearance on a card was not until 2008, which is also the year he won NFL Defensive Player of the Year. in 2008 his only cards were score and topps base.

The road of a undrafted free agent signing. Many don't appear till they crack the starting lineup and are relevant. Most sets only carried a handful of players from each team so being a top 5 or 10 player on a team is usually needed also

I think you undervalued the James Harrison by a little bit, his 2021 gold went for $95 raw when he had been retired for 4 years. The 2015 card is from when he was still active and the design and image is much better imo, I think that you could easily find a buyer in the $125-150 range

Chris, comparing the Olsen to Harrison is spot on except one factor. Panthers v Steelers collector demand. I sell exclusively football cards and would carry at least a 2x multiplier simply because he was a Steeler great. Another factor that hurts Olsen value is he moved from team to team much more than Harrison, so Olsen has many fewer core player collectors buying his cards. If Greg gets a sniff at HOF consideration that will change but much Harrison has a much better chance at the Hall. Great video, love your content, see you in Cleveland hopefully

I would argue Eric Kendricks is not a common though probably a very underrated player within the card community. Was a stud for the Vikings for many years and now for the Chargers/Cowboys. I am amazed that his Gold Prizm Rookie Auto in a BGS 9.5/10 is only worth $75. I mean how much better can it get?

I would value the Harrison more. I think based on 2021 sales it’s 100 raw. I feel confident you should get at least 150 and 200 is very possible. Also have you used terrapeak? eBay’s version of 130point. Free if you are a seller. I find it is way better than 130point but not as good as cardladder. But again free if you sell on eBay.

Great video! I was going to guess $125-$150 on the James Harrison, who knows. Id say after the data you found, being an earlier run Prizm, who knows, I'd have even said $200 for a sticker wouldn't be horribly wrong, or like you say about $100 or so to get it moved. Awesome. Just awesome!!

100% agree with your methodology. It gives you a base, but in the end we are guessing what someone will pay. I bought a 1/1 recently. It was listed at $250 or B/O. I felt it was a little high, but bought it for $250. Because I wasn't gonna lose it to save $50. When it comes to rare cards, listing a little high never hurts. Worst case you get annoying emails from people asking for a cheaper price, instead of them actually sending you an offer.

With Jeter, I immediately guessed it's worth about $350 and it seems I wasn't too far off. I would have listed it about $100 less than the lowest one others on ebay and drop the price something like $50 every month until someone bites. Sadly I always get people trying to low ball on my one of a kind stuff. For example, I'd get countless best offers on the Jeter for $200 or something just as unrealistic as my asking $750. It's why I take a long time approach at selling as it tends to better maximize my profits than guessing at what it should be and taking whatever people feel like offering.

Chris, can you please make a video explaining why 1st Bowmans and prospect cards are a popular thing in baseball collecting, when the equivalent to minor league cards in other sports, like NBA G-League, XFL, etc. are not a segment in sports card collecting at all. I’m struggling to understand the difference as a football and basketball collector.
@richardbianco9674
@richardbianco9674 3 ай бұрын
No other sport has it where all rookies start in the minors. That first Bowman has always been the earliest cards of a player in a major release ( minor league cards were always regional). The hype tends to start with this release also so that lends itself to the popularity of 1st Bowman
@collectorinvestordealer
@collectorinvestordealer 3 ай бұрын
That’s an interesting idea for a video. I’ll consider that.
@claywinn32
@claywinn32 3 ай бұрын
with baseball the 1st Bowman's that sell great right from release are most of the time 1st round/2nd round picks,then they go to the minors for anywhere from a few months to 3,4 years before making it to the majors at which time Topps makes a rookie card. With NBA and NFL the best players are getting drafted straight out of college go to their NFL team right away so then they'll have rookie cards made when the new sets come out later that year. The players in G-League weren't good enough to be drafted or to make the team that drafted them, XFL,UFL,etc are players that once again weren't good enough coming out of college to be drafted to the NFL. With NBA and NFL, college ball is basically treated as their "minor league" whereas MLB has a minor league system set up. G-League,XFL,etc are basically second chance leagues or last chance leagues for guys to get noticed.
@scarpfish
@scarpfish 3 ай бұрын
Minor league baseball has been around for decades. Football and basketball developmental leagues have existed in the past, but almost always disappeared after a few years. For most football and basketball stars, the "minor leagues" are college, and in some cases with basketball, playing overseas. That may change if G League, XFL or other leagues get a history behind them.

Feel your a little low on the Harrison... and possibly the Jeter too.. Like many have said, the Steelers are just such an iconic franchise and have such a loyal fan base, that should add a premium. Somebody else mentioned the set collector as well and I can imagine there are a small number putting a gold set together. And the fact you can't find a sale raw or graded of the other 9 copies, that really bodes well that there might just be one or multiple people waiting for this card to pop-up. It's all subjective but I'd guess the Harrison to be more like $150-$200... and $125 a slam dunk. Regardless, a great video on how to tackle the problem :-)

That's a cool Harrison card. I would have consider getting it autographed. I don't know if he signs often though, when the pop count like you say, is so miniscule...the auto may not be needed or add much value, but maybe it could. Not sure if Greg Olsen is still on commentary. Tom Brady is replacing him on FOX. Oh well. I'll stick with the Manning-cast. Bill Belichick ironically is joining Peyton and Eli. You should ALWAYS look at currently listed items, not just sold. What is currently listed is very important, you have to be cheaper than your competition, and if there is no competition you can price much higher. Comps are less important on rare cards like the harrison. I would have listed the james harrison at 299obo, and taken down to 200. No way should it ever sell for only 100. I sell about $300k of cards on ebay a year, so im not just talking out of my ass.
