I think it's weird to compare her Broadway stuff with Miranda stuff. She's still the same actress while portraying both characters, so of course there's gonna be similarity. It's just like any actor who has played more than one character. It's her voice, it's not going to completely transform between roles.

I don’t know about that, she definitely improved on her belting but she’s admitted herself that belting is just not in her range, I’d be a lot happier if they cast her in a role that for a true soprano but there’s not a lot of roles like that rn on Broadway :(

Y’all she improved, yes, but it was never bad to begin with. To be honest I never heard Miranda in these performances. But even if I did it’s ok! That’s her character! I’m sure one of the main reasons she was cast is because she can play funny, quirky character. She sounds amazing!

So agree!! I think that people who were complaining about her accent didn’t take into consideration that if the director wanted her to take to down, she would have! The accent was intentional! Ugh I’m just SO proud of her!! She rocked it!!!

Agree to disagree. Just because the director wants something doesn’t mean the actor can deliver. Colleen can as shown here, but I’m sure she had first day nerves (obviously did from her vlogs). She’s been singing as Miranda for years and her dialect is very close to Dawn’s so it’s easy to get lost in when I’m sure. I’m not going to hate on her for doing it at the beginning. But give credit where credit is due. She has improved so much and I’m so freaking proud of her!

@@falsettogod5853 No, I just don't like the timbre. She produces the notes well, but some voices just aren't pretty in certain ranges with specific placements. Quick example: Kristin Chenoweth belting an E5 versus using head voice. Her technique is perfect on both, but anyone could tell you that the head voice sounds better. I also know GREAT belters who can soar on a high F for days, but sound like boy sopranos in their head voice. Every voice is unique, and I'm just happy Colleen decided to utilize her strengths and incorporate them into her character.

miranda is a character she plays on the internet and in her own shows. Miranda happens to have a slight southern accent (twang) so when people heard her as dawn (who is southern) they compared her performance to her "miranda voice"

Miranda has always been fake... Colleen has always been able to sing. It takes control to keep up the Miranda voice. The two characters share very similar tone quality. Miranda is super nasally, and nasality is very useful when singing a song such as this one. She's also doing a twangy accent so that's more nasal on top.

okay so im saying this as a fan of colleen, not miranda bc honestly, i was never super into that character. but colleen isn't bad here. she has absolutely improved a lot since the first show. the issue that i take with her rendition of dawn though, is the vowels. it really has nothing to do with her, just her technique. she has an amazing vibrato, a beautiful tone, and jesus she has range. but! i feel like a lot of that goes to the wayside because (especially in the beginning) her diction is less than stellar and she tries to overdo the southern accent in her singing making many of her vowels unpleasant. and im not saying my opinion is fact or anything. it really comes down to preference ya know? but really, in general its a good performance but i just think she missed the mark technically.

It’s really only in the drawn out dipthongs, her emphasis on the ‘r’s and a bit in the twang. All of which should be there anyway in a southern character. Also ‘When He Sees Me’ is a comedic character song (I mean it has lyrical sections and is still technically difficult, but the overall intention is that of a character song). Character songs are *meant* to be slightly over exaggerated for effect. Everything she does makes a lot of sense, and seems to work. I’d say she definitely made the right artistic decisions and did them well 😊
