I swing back and forth wildly between loving and craving water and being so bored of it and not wanting it at all 😅 I've been slowly getting to the bored "I don't want it" stage, and thought about going to the store and picking up one of those naturally sweetened squirt, flavor enhancer things. Glad to hear that, "yes, that still counts as drinking water"

I'm one of those crazy people who LOVES water! Definitely noticing I am drinking less now that I am not at my desk all day and I am feeling it. Pulling out one of my cute work water bottles to keep filled during the day again.

Several things contribute to the amount of water we need-- weather, body size and muscle mass, and activity level are few things I can think of.

First thing I do is fill a mason jar with water in the morning (25oz.) with lime or lemon. Starts me off on the right track gets the system going. Then I just try to have 1/2 of that during my workout. Oh and sparkling water is great to throughout the day 😊

I just discovered your channel, Colleen, and I am really enjoying it. I realized a number of years ago that I wasn't drinking enough water when I tried to donate blood and they couldn't get a full pint without it coagulating first. I was told that I needed more water. I had been drinking mostly coffee so I made some changes and did some research. One thing you didn't mention here is caffeine and the relationship to caffeinated drinks and hydration. Because caffeine is a diuretic, it can contribute to dehydration if we don't drink more water to counter it. Can you do a video about caffeine and its relationship to hydration and hunger cues? Thank you!

I have a gallon of water I keep in the fridge and end up drinking it almost every day. I definitely don't stress it, but I love water fresh from the fridge! And I definitely feel best when I drink at least 75% of the gallon. If I only had 50 oz, I definitely would feel it. If I dont drink enough throughout the day I am SO thirsty at night!

A little over two years ago, I used to drink almost nothing but Mountain Dew. We are talking 100 to 140 ounces a day. Yes, I know, verry bad. Well, I ran into some health issues and I'm not talking diabetes or heart issues (thank god). I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's, then Peripheal Neuropathy, then last year Microscopic Colitis, and this year IBS, GERD, and Barrett's Esophagus. Now I know that the Mountain Dew did now cause any of these diseases, but I'm sure it didn't help. I now drink mostly water and sometimes 100% juice or lemonade, rarely do I drink soda now. I do feel a lot better. I will tell you that it wasn't an easy transition. One thing that helps me drink more water is it being cold and the second thing it the water being filtered ( not tap water ). I do not like warm water.

Hi Colleen! I've just gotten back into drinking more water and staying hydrated after a period of unintentional protest....I have realised that when i was dieting my group made me see water as a tool, 'if you feel hungry, just drink water!' I actually really enjoy water, its my drink of choice and i get teased about this a lot haha, but they made me turn against it and it became a real chore. Nothing is free from diet culture toxicity! Now that i am eating mindfully the mindful drinking is returning! :)

I just discovered your channel and am going through some of your videos now. I didn't realize how messed up my relationship with food was. A couple diets I'd really love for you to talk about because they're super popular but idk if science really backs them up: Trim Healthy Mama: they say they don't want you to count calories, which is great but: - you can't eat high fat and carb together, so goodbye all sorts of foods - no sugar, maple syrup, honey etc - only stevia, sugar alcohols - no white potatoes, most breads, "high glycemic index foods" And the Dr. Greger "how not to die"/daily dozen, or the Dr Fuhrman Nutritarian diet or the Starch Solution...all those HCLF completely whole foods plant based diets. I've heard so many people say they're the healthiest way to eat, but are they really? Veganism aside, they seem really limiting but idk if they're too low fat/low protein, etc.

Question! If you drink coffee/energy drinks during the day (1-2, say), how much does that cover from your goal? You did mention that it counts but doesnt feel the same yet for me since it boosts my metabolism too it doesnt feel like it counts at all. Like i have other reasons to drink it but i'm wondering.

I have ONE food "rule" that I will probably NEVER break and that is that I don't drink things like smoothies or milkshakes (basically anything with calories) if I'm thirsty. It's too easy to drink too much too quickly and then I don't enjoy it. So, if I get a Frappucino at Starbucks, I'll also get an iced tea and drink some of that first. That way, I'm better able to enjoy my frappucino without drinking half of in 5 seconds without tasting it trying to quench my thirst. I do aim for a gallon or more a day (some days, I'm just thirstier. I also don't drink coffee and I haven't been drinking iced tea or even seltzer which occasionally counts for more of my fluid intake). I decided to challenge myself to start drinking a gallon a day when quarantine started because I had the time, and now I actually feel thirst again! (Work days are still a challenge though; I often feel guilty for stopping to take a drink at work and stripping off my aprons and gloves to go to the bathroom is enough to deter me at times). I actually think this is a PERFECT time to work on increasing your water because people actually have easier access to their bathrooms etc. After a while, your body adjusts to drinking and you don't need to pee quite as often, so maybe if you start, you'll be used to it when the office opens up again. I find that switching up my water bottle can help. Lately, I've been using my old Tervis water bottle with a pour spout opening, but I've been looking at some simple 24 oz straw tumblers online (think Starbucks reusable venti cup). If I start using a new or different drinking vessel, I start drinking more. I primarily drink distilled water. I find that my tap water- even filtered- just doesn't sit well with me. I can drink distilled on an empty stomach though which is great because I am often thirsty first thing in the morning even if I'm not particularly hungry. I've seen little reusable bottles that come in a pack of 5 (I think they're like 10-14 oz each). Filling those up and setting goals for when you drink them could be a fun way to reach your hydration goals. Fill up all of the little bottles and set goals for when you want to finish each one. Maybe one first thing in the morning, one with each meal, one before/after a workout, etc. For some, having a large bottle might be overwhelming, but having smaller bottles could be a solution.
