The biggest thing that people don't realize is that he was never good at basketball. AT ALL. When he was this so called "basketball prodigy" as a child, he was only going viral and famous at a young age because he was just really good at dribbling fast and had really good ball handling for his age. That's it. That's LITERALLY the ONLY reason why he went viral and seemed like he was the next big thing. He was always too small and he had zero offensive and defensive skills and poor fundamentals. Add that to the fact that he had terrible influence and his personality and mentality became trash. As he got older, he just got faster and his dribbling also just got faster too. All he does is just showcase his fast dribbling and he has no control of it sometimes because he goes way too fast for his own pace. Him being short and have trash mindset just puts the nail in the coffin.
@JoshBeFreeTVАй бұрын
Yeah, whenever I'd view him during his formative years, it was obvious that his game would never translate outside of any blacktop/globetrotting style of play. And he likely wouldn't be successful in that realm either 🤭

Both you and the first person that replied to you went a lil too far. When he first blew up in 5th grade playing at a high school level (even if it was his dad’s doing), it was genuinely impressive. I’m around the same age as him, and when I saw that as a kid it was crazy to me that he was playing against high schoolers AND scoring points. His ball handling for an 11 year old and the range on his shot was ELITE. Then he got older, never got much better, and didn’t get much taller either. Once he was at the age where guys are hitting puberty and getting crazy growth spurts, he simply couldn’t keep up anymore. And that’s not even talking about his atrocious personality and play style. But to say he was NEVER good is simply hating to hate. Basketball wise, he peaked in like 5th-7th grade.
@DTroy98Ай бұрын
@@cameronn1891 once again, no disrespect but if high schoolers are allowing him to do that then they trash too! Not his fault, good for him for taking advantage of his situation but his personality only made him a target. Maybe if he learned to pass the dam ball he’d be in a much better situation

@catch40507Ай бұрын
The sad thing is this: Julian Newman could have been a good player. He's clearly got good quickness, fast hands, and a good feel for the ball. But he trained, practiced, and played to create highlights. And he would only play on teams where he could be the number one guy. Like he averaged something like 35 ppg and broke Teddy Dupay's Florida scoring record with two years left in his HS career. But if you go look at the schedule? His teams all sucked. They were getting blown out by very average squads. But instead of doing something about it, the people around him fed into it and hyped all the wrong shit. He wouldn't play anywhere he couldn't go try to create youtube clicks. I always assumed that he had done well money wise and they knew he wasn't going to play at the next level. But watching him beclown himself as a 23 year old walkon at an impossibly low level of college basketball makes me think that, no, they didn't actually understand what was going on. Which blows my fucking mind.
@katebeckinsnail910Ай бұрын
I think they use him as someone when the coach wants to take a bunch of shots. Like they’re already down, and so he wants someone who will go out and just take shots. Not all players wanna just shoot crazy, they wanna make smart moves. But Julian doesn’t care about his stats, it’s not like he’s going anywhere.

Just for future reference - every field goal attempt is a field goal attempt, but not every field goal attempt is a 3 point attempt. for example in this video, you said that Julian went 3-12 from field AND 0-6 from 3, and proceed to refer to these stats in a way that makes it sound like he took 18 shots, but this isn't the case. Julian took 12 total field goal attempts in this game, 6 of them were 3 point attempts. 0-6 from 3, but 3-6 from close, totalling in a FGM-A statistic of 3-12 with a 3PM-A stat of 0-6 alongside it. Basically FGM-A is a total number of shots taken, and 3PM-A extracts only the long range shots from that statistic, but the box score doesn't exclude them from the FGM-A column! Not a huge deal, but the way you portray the stat in this instance paints a much worse picture than what is already a terrible shooting performance, and could be easily misunderstood!
