It can be a little heart wrenching seeing college decision reaction videos as the majority of the students featured in them win outstanding awards, take the most difficult courses, and simply are well-rounded in all the ways one could be. Truthfully, one can’t feel jealous, rather one could only only wonder why becoming said “ideal” student was so difficult to begin with. Dang it...life can really hurt, however, this is only the beginning so it’s important to keep going :,D! From a sophomore in college here (Purdue) I can absolutely second this message. The school you go to does not matter nearly as much as people make it out to be - of course in the grand scheme of life like you said - but even less abstract, like for job opportunities. My school is extremely highly ranked for engineering, but I still struggled just the same as thousands of students nationally to land my first internship. Yes, Purdue probably gave me some opportunities to help me get to that goal that I wouldn't have had at a different school, but it was ultimately what I chose to do outside of school that moved me on to the interview phase for a ton of different companies. Job placement is all about the work you put in outside of school to grow your skills and become a valuable future employee, which is entirely independent from the school's prestige. I personally know engineers at schools that I've never heard of that have created some amazing engineering projects, while some of my peers at Purdue are sleeping through their classes. It's all about what you choose to do with your time that leads to success. Do not stress about getting into top schools. Fantastic message man, good luck next year!

I look at IVY league schools as asking the popular girl out, she ain’t gonna let you in, unless you have tons of money 😂😭 Edit: so some people didn’t get my point. It’s way harder for poor people to make it into an Ivy League school, compared to a rich person who can just pay the tuition. It’s still possible but your school probably doesn’t give you the Pre Harvard material, like how a lot of Fancy Private schools do. And it’s so unfair for poor people... so unfair.
@lulue.56554 жыл бұрын
That's absolutely not true. Many low-income students not only get accepted, but also get generous scholarships at these top schools.
@SamuelSamuelSamuel14 жыл бұрын
@@lulue.5655 yeah, but they have to work way harder, which sucks :/ and even if they work super hard and even get a 1570 On their SAT but their GPA isn’t 5.0 or higher then they don’t make the cut to get a scholarship, which makes a lot of people form poor areas stuck there, because they can’t afford that collage..
@lulue.56554 жыл бұрын
@@SamuelSamuelSamuel1 this is also not true. There are scholarships that are based on financial need and those that are based on merit. Those based on financial need usually also have some cutoffs for GPA and standardized exam scores, but they're not impossibly high, and simply there to incentivize them to actually try at school, to ensure that they're giving the scholarship to someone who really wants go to school, and not just on someone wanting to take advantage of the money. FAFSA is also a great option for low income students. I think maybe you should talk to a guidance counselor about these options because it sounds like you havent really heard about how much help there is!

Hey, you should check out Questbridge, a nonprofit organization that gives low income, high achieving students an opportunity to receive full ride scholarships from top schools. It's possible to go to a top school even as a FGLI.

I applied to one school because of my fear of rejection (and low sat scores lol I’m a bad tester) but guess what I kinda regret that because i believe i would’ve been better prepared for adulthood/college life accepting rejection at this moment, because that’s all college is: you win some you lose some. I do like my college though I’m in 3 great programs and have great work experiences so far and I’m a junior now so that matters a lot now. Regardless of the college you go to at least you have the oppuntunity to go it’s a gift to experience it.and I’m proud of you!

This is that tough moment of every high school senior with college aspirations. I was crushed when I got my first rejection as well especially since I had a shitty day and mounting pressure at the time. The truth is once you're situated where you are you won't care about where you didn't get in. Honestly speaking the way you guys were conditioned about colleges looking back is not good for your mental health. I've worked as an ASU student with students from colleges I could never have dreamed of attending so your college(or community college) doesn't write your future in stone. I've had friends that went through really dark times over not getting into their dream schools/admissions bs so it's important to not lose perspective and not think of your worth as what is on a piece of paper. -a guy applying to grad schools rn
