That is so awesome that your school was so accommodating to make your dorm accessible. All schools should do this for all of their students with disabilities.

Love your room and especially your shower. Your excitement is contagious. You seem like a very kind, appreciative, and considerate young lady. I do have one question. Do you have an aide that helps you with things like unloading your backpack, etc., like your friends did in high school or do you feel comfortable asking for help. So glad things are going well.
@SarahToddHammer3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I don't have an aide; I ask my friends for help when I need it 🤗

Wow, that is so awesome that the college worked with you to meet your needs! And that is the biggest dorm room I’ve ever seen. Enjoy! Hope it’s going well in spite of Covid.

what an amazing school!! they really did go above and beyond and that definitely says something. all schools should have at least one or two accessible dorms anyways but I'm so glad they did that for you!
@alexandrasartinsanity4 жыл бұрын
Just a heads up, make sure that if you need accommodations for classes that you remind your professors that they HAVE to follow your accommodations as set by your student accessibility centre. In first year I had some profs fight me on my accommodations and it was incredibly detrimental to being able to participate in the class.
@SarahToddHammer4 жыл бұрын
I've already taken care of that. But that's horrible! Sorry you had that experience!
@alexandrasartinsanity4 жыл бұрын
Sarah Todd Hammer I thought it was taken care of for me as well but halfway through the semester some of my profs decided that they were “optional” for them to follow. I hope it doesn’t happen to you but if it does, I would go back to the accommodation department. If they can’t make the prof follow the rules you have to go to your program chair and then they take the issue to the dean.
@MyDuckSaysFucc4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I’ve been there. In my case I go to community college so easy enough to drop if needed. Some profs are ignorant of the law. Sometime you need to get the disability center on their behinds.

Totally awesome that your school made those accommodations for you to make your living in the dorm so much more enjoyable. Good luck in school and have fun. 👍👍🤗🤗😁😁🎉🎉🎊🎊

It's wonderful to see that you are so happy in your dorm room. I'm so pleased all the adaptions were carried out to your exact requirements making it possible for you to be so independent. Your room is lovely! I particularly like the colour which is the same colour as your room at your family home. Now I have forgotten what you called that colour! So I shall have to watch the video again to find out! Any excuse to see how happy you look! I hope you are getting on ok with the person you are sharing with. Now do they get to share that fabulous shower with you or are they sent off to use some other bathroom? Thank you for the wonderful video! And YES I think your room is amazing!

Hey girl! That's a really lovely room! I wanted to ask you a question hoping it's not rude: how do you take notes in class/study in general? Are you able to write/type very fast or do you have some kind of automatic typer on your computer? I'm really curious about this and if it's interesting enough you could also do a video on it! I'd love to see that❤ good luck with staring college!!

It’s wonderful when people get things right for a person with disabilities. It’s equally wonderful to see someone I consider a disabilities activist so full of gratitude. Unfortunately some members of our community can be less than grateful at times. I think recreating your shower unit from home is brilliant. I was in my thirties when I went to university and I had no disabilities at the time, I also owned a house about 400 yards from the main university building so I've never lived in student accommodation. I hope you enjoy college every bit as much as I enjoyed university. I’m assuming with your personality and disposition you’re already making friends. I smiled all the way through the video seeing you so happy. May I ask a totally off topic personal question? Do you plait your own hair? If so that’s amazing considering your lack of upper body mobility.
