Here are a couple of space-saving tips from a college student. You probably only need one plate, one mug, one set of cutlery, and one bowl. You're not gonna have a dishwasher to dump it in so you're gonna have to wash it immediately in the bathroom sink anyway. A mesh caddy is super helpful because it can mold to whatever shape you need and it's hangable. I don't know how useful the toaster thing is gonna be because she's not gonna have any counter space. I was in a triple my freshman year, and my roommates and I had one mini fridge (with freezer) with a microwave on top. For the decor part, we had lofted beds, so we just decorated the area near our beds however we wanted with pictures, fake plants, etc. You'll find out really quick that you might not use many of the items that you bought. Most dorms have thermostats, so you may not need the fan. A printer is not needed because the library would have a printer and she is likely to get printing dollars from the school for the semester. She won't need the tool kit because you can always call maintenance or campus safety to get anything fixed. Also, if she needs something, she can always buy it after the year progresses. I recommend starting minimal and adding on only if you need things. Good luck for the next 4 Arianna!!

So much good advice, I will add you won’t need the tool kit because you call maintenance if somethings broken. A lock box for any valuables or medication is a good idea. We moved my daughter with plastic storage totes that way when she came home everything was in the totes to store in her room for the summer. No reason to store anything that’s in her room at home, when she’s home on weekends or breaks she’s going to want to grab different items or clothes and switch them out as she goes.

Not sure which college she’s heading to out here but Maintenance pretty much everywhere is a joke, best to have her learn skills she’s going to need in the long run anyways. Plus if she can’t use it there’s multiple people in the family that could use it. Good advice otherwise though :)

This reminded me of when my daughter moved to college. She only lived in the dorms for 2 years, then moved to her own apartment. Being an only child, she needed more privacy. Don’t forget to put her name or at least initials on everything. If your daughter is serious about getting good grades, head to the library, not a dorm room for doing school work. Don’t forget feminine hygiene products. If her college is in a rural area, they may more difficult to buy. Lastly, a quote from Shakespeare, “Neither a lender or borrower be”. She will get along with her roommates much better by following this. Good luck to Ariana!

Hi Crazy Pieces! I have been watching your channel for a long time, and I’m so excited for Ariana to go to college. I have a top 5 list of things to bring to college. 1. A mattress topper/mattress pad. It will help her sleep better. 2. Power strip with surge protector, extension cord. Oftentimes the outlets in dorms are in weird places that she can’t reach. 3. A fan. It helps keep the temperature cool and also helps with white noise. 4. Organization stuff. I got some hanging organizers and it was a lifesaver! 5. A box of over the counter medicine (Tylenol, sudafed, ibuprofen, other stuff she uses when she’s sick.) Theres nothing worse than not feeling well and having to leave to go get medicine. You probably will not need the toaster oven. Can’t wait to watch Ariana’s college journey!

Gosh this brings me back. My freshman year I tried to cram so much stuff in my tiny dorm, but by the next year, I was like, okay, just these 2 boxes, and I'm good. LOL. Hope you have the greatest time ever. P.S. One of my hacks for moving my children in to college is large plastic totes. to store everything in to move in and to move out. We live in Connecticut and 2 of the kids stayed in state and 1 went to school at Florida International University. Move in and out were the same weekend for my kids. Excited for you Ariana! Some colleges don’t allow toasters just a microwave and you’ll probably only have space on top of the mini fridge. My college considered a toaster, a hot plate and candles fire hazards. And maintenance fixes everything…they have to document it. Definitely take stuff in totes so they can also be used as storage. I only had one roommate and space was limited. As many said, since she’ll be close take clothes as needed. And I had my bedroom kept at home and went to college out of state. Nine times out of 10 you’ll end up buying paper plates, red Solo cups and plastic cutlery if you ever need them. I took dishes like you got and only ever used my mug for hot tea. I’m not sure what the computers are like in the library but I would get a USB drive in case you need it. And the thing I used the most was a mini voice recorder in my classes(your phone won’t work for it due to hours and voice recorders are meant to amplify voice on playback). I can’t tell you how many times I replayed lectures writing essays and studying for finals. Not every professor will record lectures to post online. Sorry I wrote a book.

If you don’t have a washer/dryer in the dorm (and it’s only in the basement or something) get tide pods. You pop 2 in and it saves SO much arm muscle! I also loved having my own printer but I used a laser one since you don’t have to change the cartridges often. Shower caddy and shower shoes are essential, I didn’t live in a dorm but even in a shared housing it was extremely handy. I was definitely guilty of buying too much stuff, get the bare necessities and then figure out what you actually use. Even to this day, I still only have 1 of each utensils because I don’t have guests over. Makes cleaning a cinch!

Arianna, I noticed you had picked up some plates and bowls. I have a set that is simular that my Aunt gave me when I moved our. Mine are over 50 years old and since my Aunt passed away I wanted to preserve them. I was wondering what brand those are. Mine are Aztec brand. Congrats though and it looks like you are all ready except for the Mini-fridge.

If u are gonna have so many things u need to have electricity for like fridge, printer, toaster etc, maybe its good to check how many power points are there in the dorm. Or u could just buy an extension wire for it. 😊😊😊😊 Have fun in college!!

I would suggest (depending on how high her bed is) to get plastic totes to pack all her stuff, I found it really helpful and I was able to store it under my bed and had the dressers in front of the totes under my bed so you couldn’t even see them. It also makes it a lot easier when you have to move it all out at the end of the semester, and makes it easier to store in the summer

Get a wrap towel. They are a lifesaver for dorm showering! Target has some for reasonable prices!

Is that a different style to the one she got at Target?

That 3 tier cart is amazing. My daughter has one next to her desk and it holds so much extra items.

Why do these kids now a days wear the hottest clothing in summer. Ariana and her hoodie… lol. Oh boy. Good luck in school and “with good preparation there is no fear” basically study hard and be confident you will succeed in class. Hannah!!!! Gosh I think she is so adorable. Reminds me of my kiddos.

I love this! I’m also going in as a college freshman and I’m doing the whole sage green boho thing as well!!

With dorm life: keep it simple. You will have a dresser and desk so you can use that for storage. I would definitely coordinate with roommates to see who's bringing what. Also be careful with appliances. If you don't have a kitchen in your dorm they won't let you bring in heating appliances (except microwave).

I would recommend just bringing like basic clothing items like one pair of while jeans, a pair of blue jeans, and a pair of black Jeans and then of course comfy clothing cause alot of the time you think you want alot of clothes for options but in reality you'll be wanting to sleep in so you'll be in a rush so sometimes options are just too much

Exciting a new adventure! Questions... I live in Arizona and I see your kids wearing long sleeves and hoodie when its 115 degrees outside. Why? I know fashion is important to teenagers but they have cute fashion for summer wear!
@nleb19932 жыл бұрын
Because they feel like wearing sleeves.

I also bought that cart, I’m going to be using it as my bedside table. It also can be wheeled around so that’s a plus

I believe another item she would use would be a black light hand held flashlight. Works great for checking mattresses, bedding etc for bed bugs and for using in the restroom. If toilet isn’t cleaned well it will show up under the black light. I love mine.

Dont buy moving boxes buy totes if you know how far off the floor the bed is. Then she can use it for food storage under the bed as well.

I hope in the end she gets a bigger shower caddy for shower stuff. Those are small and taking 2 plus a towel and washcloth and clothing will be a lot to carry. In my experience love y’all
