This film is bloody brilliant. The cinematography, the acting, the story. All of it. Ryan Gosling's best film, and massively underrated just because It didn't follow the conventions of an action movie. The use of soundtrack and lighting makes the film what it is. A reminiscence of 80's action films, with a deeper insight into one of the normally supporting roles, a wheelman. It shows us that in the end, a life of crime is one that can only be escaped in one way. Death. Layer cake did exactly the same thing, showing that drug dealers lose too. As I have already said, this film was bloody brilliant. What cinema today should strive to be.

People often ask me why "Drive" with Ryan Gosling is my favorite movie of all time. Because I don't know a second movie that combines opposites with such a genius. It contains elements of an action movie, but they are not loud, tiring and silly. They are realistic, they cause a feeling of insecurity and curiosity in us.. At the same time, the movie has a love theme that is not corny and cheesy like in 3/4 of such movies. It is beautifull and really relatable. It shows a real feeling. At the beginning of the film, when we look at the main character, we think "ah it will be another action movie with a confident and ruthless hero." The further we go into the film, we see that the figure of a sensitive man emerges from the initial image of a criminal driver and a brutal murderer. At the end of the movie, we see a purehearted person in front of us. An image of a real human being, and a real hero.

Coming back to this after seeing pictures of Ryan Gosling as Ken. Before this movie, I had never really cared for Ryan Gosling, but this really changed every opinion I ever had of him. He is so much more than a one-trick pony, a one-role actor. Drive proves that. This is by far my favourite movie of all time. I hope to God that never changes. I think I cried once listening to this, I did. I don't know why but I did. The softness of her voice, the build up of the guitar to when they start singing, the closeness of the couple and her constantly saying " real human being and a real hero", which is what every woman seeks believe it or not. This justifies existence as good. Pure beauty and magic. I'm at the lowest point in my life and this makes me love life and motivates me to overcome my demons. I've loved this song and movie for a long time but only now did I just look into the lyrics and their meaning. The fact that part of this Song is about Sully adds yet another layer of beauty. I'm so scared of flying so the story of Sully has always been so inspiring and comforting to me. It was so disturbing to me when I watched the documentary about him and learned that people tried to prosecute him for the plane problems. But it's perfect because everyone needs to know that in their own heroic quest they are going to have to overcome unjust things pointed at them. This song and scene gives me hope for the world. Reading the comments here does too. It always warms my heart to see nothing but positive comments. There is so much hate in the world but often you can see so much beauty in the comments section, people encouraging and sympathizing with one another. Maybe art can save us. Maybe if everyone got inspired to be a hero we can fix this world. Art is so important, it's just as important as doctors. And telling artists in comments how much their art helps them is so important and does so much good in the world and brings people together.
