Don't forget Nebraska 1983. If Tom Osborne had told the kicker to kick the extra point to tie the game, he would have won his 1st National Championship. Because he didn't (& went for the win), he had to wait 11 more years.

The ULM-Florida State game: The ULM kicker who missed that extra point, earlier in the game made a solo tackle on the kickoff after the interception return TD. If he doesn't make that tackle ULM would have never been able to make its comeback. Score would have been 31-14 FSU instead of the 24-14 that stayed.

That was a fluke for your team, and Miami was a fluke for ours for all the at least somewhat valid reasons listed above.

They were way overhyped from the start. I saw so many people saying they were going to be in the playoffs/national championship game. I wasn’t one of those people, and it isn’t because I am an Oklahoma fan, it is because their offense was never all that explosive and their defense, which was pretty good in 2018, all jumped ship, with only a few returning. I actually had Texas at 7-5. My rl friends, who are also OU fans, said I was crazy. Well look where we are now. Probably the most laughable thing is Texas trying to rip DBU off as their own football program, yet they ended up in the top 10 (possibly top 5) worst in secondary in the nation.

Why? You have the chance to win it in one play, versus playing another set of possessions. In one play with momentum, your underdog team might just have that extra step to get it. Another round of possession is more likely to allow the better team to play up to their ability. Plus, you play the game to win. You have a concrete chance to win the game with a single play, if you tie it, you may never have that opportunity again in the game.

@@chrism7574 9 out of 10 times they don't get it and they end up losing. In OT they could hold the other team to a FG and score a TD, they could force a turnover, the other team could miss a FG or the extra point, and so there are ample opportunities to win the game in OT vs just the one play right then and there that determines everything. Consider how well North Carolina was playing against Clemson, I think they would have had an extremely good chance to win that game in OT because they were forcing turnovers, getting stops on defense, and not making mistakes, but instead of taking their play to OT they lost the game right then and there with a pretty bad call on what play to run. It was really disappointing to watch
