Welcome to Peterson Family Farm. On this KZbin channel, we plan to show viewers what happens on a real life family farm in Kansas. From working with animals, to planting seeds, to harvesting grain, to putting up hay, to fixing equipment, you'll get to see what farming is like! Our farm is a 5th generation farm started in 1882 by our great great grandparents. We grow wheat, corn, soybeans, milo, sunflowers, and forages and we feed about 1,000 head of cattle. To learn more about it, watch our channel intro video here: • Welcome to Our New You...

Truly, a family farm. Downright impressive! In the day of corporate farming, it's a breath of fresh air to witness your day to day activities. I used to farm here in Eastern Montana about 20 years ago until my health dictated I had to give up farming...I'm a new subscriber. Thank you for documenting your activities like you do. Keep up the good work👍👍.

Always wondered about those large piles of food at the diary farms we pass by in our area. Love the education! Thank you.

it is actually a really good preservation method that can even enhance the feed quality by adding vitamins that are produced by the good bacterias within the fermentation process, feeding only silage however is not the best way for meat and milk quality and of course for the health of the cow.... but the silage fermentation process can also go wrong: if the silage does smell bad .. it is.. since this process can also go bad with f.e. butyric acid etc... especially on dairy farms this method allows for a constant high quality feed for the cows and it can also be made with plant material other than just gras, like f.e. corn, alfalfa etc.. giving this process the utmost care is mandatory because you want a good and healthy fermentation process.. every hole and every leak than introduces air into the fermentation process has to be avoided at all cost.

Good video!! Don't apologize for being ''scientific'' as farming is much more scientific than most folks have any idea about. Way more than just'' making a hole in the dirt put a corn in it and cover it up and watch it grow''.

fantastic wheat chopping & silage preparation # yes wheat should be harvested before maturation at which water content in the leaves , stem & grain is sufficient for silage fermentation # inoculant is the bacteria which release enzymes to facilitate fermentation of silage # good pressing of silage through loader to remove air for anaerobic fermentation of silage #

Hi from Cork Ireland. I ran a JD 5830 years ago. I notice a hydraulic motor/pump fitted to the blower can you go through this in more detail in another video. The wheat field is mown real neat.

Had a cousin that had some drought stricken corn in southeast Iowa 1983 corn grain yield was about 30 bushel. Him and his neighbor had had an old Dairy barn concrete foundation which the lined the sides with round bales and they proceeded to cut their worst corn fields for silage they used an old H farmall with silage fork to spread and level and pack the silage in their improvised Trench silo I think Al had a M farmall with a 2 row mounted silage cutter.... they had a neighbor down the road that was baling hay with his old Allis Chalmers Roto baler was kinda neat to watch 30 and 40 year old equipment at the time actually working...

"That's kinda scientific"--got me laughing! I was following as a scientific gal. I shall learn more after I get done with my summer teaching job. Anatomy & Physiology is my knowledge base right now so I want to investigate this silage process.

You want duel wheels on the tractor on the heap it packs it down better
@wheeln24-79
@wheeln24-79 4 жыл бұрын
Actually I think your wrong. More weight is put down with one tire. If there were 2 the weight would be half as much. So your compacting less area with only one tire but putting more weight on and compacting it better.
@petersonfamilyfarm1778
@petersonfamilyfarm1778 4 жыл бұрын
We prefer to pack with dual wheels, yes, as much for safety as anything. But this was only 20 acres of silage so it was not worth putting the duals on. When we chop 300 acres of corn for silage in the fall we will put the duals on to pack.

We have our GoPros on clamps we can attach to stuff. To get them out and attach to head or chest takes too long during a busy work time like chopping silage.
