I quit after thinking about it a long time and found out that i can learn stuff online . I learn web development on my own while still living with my parent who disapointed in me leaving college(lol old people, my parent very outdated btw, thinking college gonna solve everything and will lead to a good happy life) and manage get a junior level front end web dev job and move out. I dropped out of college as well. I was majoring in Electrical Engineering and had some scholarships, but when I realized how much debt I'd have after graduation, I looked into the education system a little deeper and was distraught at what I found. I couldn't be there in good conscience. When I dropped out, I got little support. Everyone told me I'd regret it. Today, 4 years later, I have a 5-figure net worth, a secure full-time job, work experience, and ZERO debt. I don't live with my parents. I vote and volunteer and contribute to society. So don't let people make you feel bad for dropping out. Work hard, go above and beyond, pay your dues, and you'll make it.

The whole thing has been nothing but a huge waste of time, and it's not that I don't have the smarts for college, I get fairly good grades, it's just the whole thing is a huge slog fest with miserable depressing people in a miserable depressing atmosphere. All I do is show up, say, learn, and do absolutely nothing, then leave. It's done nothing but get in the way of my work and personal life. I need to be part of the workforce, I need to be outside all day, I need to come home tired and accomplished... College sets you up for an office job mostly. I work in landscaping and I have full intention of starting my own lawn Care business. You can take on as much clientele as you can physically handle, name your own price, and you can make serious bank. Don't need a useless degree for that.

One of the few social programs I support is subsidized education. I think that education needs to stay true to it's original values: new ideas, experiences, granting people a more complex and precise view of the world. That is what people went to college for back in the day. Now it's just money. We want college so much that we grant free loans to students, and that drives prices up(I know I'm simplifying). And then they end up with debt, and we just expect them to deal with it. If people understood what college is primarily for, then we wouldn't have so many unhappy people with degrees. It's not to increase your chance at a job, it's more of a prerequisite. It's not to make you smarter, you can gain invaluable real life experience by yourself instead of being locked away in campus. It's not to teach you programming, because learning programming means up with the language - not specailizing in a few. It's not to give you a bachelor's degree, if you don't get an associates, then really reconsider why you're going. It's not for some shitty degree in gender studies or psychology. Remember, the first US university was for religious ministers. The culture is deeply elitist - not all but it's there. But don't listen to me; do your own research.

You're exactly right. the US dollar is collapsing, as evident of the price increase on food, housing, healthcare, and other entities. Honestly, our prices would be higher, if it wasn't for other countries's high demand for US dollars. This demand allows the FED to print out money, export excess printed-money to countries who want our dollars, and then print out MORE money. But it is only a matter of time until other countries really how worthless the US dollar is. and when they do, they will dump our dollars. Congress will print out more money to bailout college graduates who cannot pay their student loan debts and to keep the lending companies afloat. With the US' inability to EXPORT these printed dollars, there will be an over-supply of printed dollars floating in the economy, which leads to devaluation of the dollar= higher prices. Unemployment will be much higher. Then the US government will convince tourist who are oblivious to the state of America to visit America. In turn, each tourist will be issued a brochure which says "Welcome to Venezuela" since America will be like Venezuela at this point.

And after looking more into the education system, I realized that there is a lot of outside factors that play a role in determining success after college, Its all a gamble therefor I am no longer transferring and continuing on. complete waste of fucking time I could have been spending doing something else more productive like weight training. And to think that I quit a job I had at the time which provided contracts and materials to landscaping companies to continue on with my so called "higher" education was a big fucking mistake. They had equipment and construction vehicles there that I actually could have learned to put on my resume had I asked my employers. College makes sense, if 1. The economy is strong, 2. College in affordable. and 3. There is enough job growth. in 2020, none of those 3 items apply. People who believe heart and soul that college is the way to go, they will tell you, that going to college will teach you how to think. Looking back, its very demoralizing to tell people, that going to college is the only way to be successful. How little faith in the next generation do you have to have, to tell them they are so stupid that they are unable to figure things out on their own?

“Debt is never gonna make you successful.” That runs contrary to common understandings of how the economy works. Much of growth in wealth, (both business and personal) comes from taking on debt through loans that are used for investment. Sure, you need to keep your debt at a reasonable level and invest wisely, but it’s objectively wrong to think that debt will keep you from success. On the contrary, it’s often what can help _make_ _you_ _successful._

There are so many students that commit suicide while being in college because they were so stressed about doing "their best" so that they would have to pay for the class again or disappoint their parents.

Im taking a level 2 electrical course, the things we have to learn just too wire a plug or a consumer unit is fucking ridiculous. I can do all this in my spare time with no problem is faults. This is one of the things we have to learn www.electronics-tutorials.ws/dccircuits/dcp_10.html

Go to a college prep high school. Get good enough grades to get a scholarship if possible. Shoot for the most prestigious academic institution you can. Accrue a mountain of debt that will take decades to pay off. Meet someone while at school. Get married and have 2.5 kids. Start saving for your child's education! (that proves that college is a scam!) Buy a house w/a double attached garage w/a mortgage! Then you wake up one day and ask yourself: what the hell am I doing? My point to all of this is: all of that is great if that's the road you want to travel to achieve the things you want to in life. Unfortunately, if you do not follow this conformist script, society labels you a failure. And that's a shame.

I've said this many times before, money IS NOT the root of all evil, PEOPLE are the root of all evil. Money is just green paper, it's used for many good things and many bad things. It's not the money's fault it's OUR fault. It all comes down to how you decide to spend it.

I pursue a smart major in college in a value school. For example, I would like to go to USC/UCI bc of their financial aid and the money that actually goes back into the students (mainly USC). I’m choosing this path under an engineering/computer science/finance major. This IS to earn money, but I plan to retire as soon as possible. Why? Because I want to play investing/education/networking game in order to make as much as I can. Once I retire, one way or another, either through entrepreneurship or investing with my major, I will look for hobbies/places/experiences that make me happy. Not what job will make me happy. I find a passion to make money to be free and not limited to pursue my happiness! 😁 ☀️

I was in uni for 3 years and it actually made me more stupid and less able to think for myself, because all they focus on is tests and theory and when it comes to applying the skills you realise that all you know is theory. I do agree that theory is important to obtain the basic knowledge to develop a skill, but until that theory is applied in something real it is totally useless. After leaving uni I started developing myself into a person that can think on the spot and make my own decisions. I realise I can learn anything as long as I put in the hard work. Now I was studying Information Technology for 3 years and found that I couldn't build or make anything because most of the skills were head knowledge not practical knowledge and so I feel as though I am the same as I was entering the degree. However I do think that doctors, lawyers, engineers, and scientists need to go to uni, but the system of education needs to become more practical and relevant to current society.

100% truth. Here's a concept, too. Think of the entirety of business majors at university. A VERY large majority of them aspire to start their own business, and believe that because they have such a great education, they will be successful. If this were the case, why do 98% of businesses fail within the first year? If you're going to college for business, you're likely ignorant to the fact that college IS a business. You're just another one of their loyal customers.

The reasons why people change majors either because the major wasn't for them or because they let a couple of classes be the decision maker of their future.

I work at USPS making 60k to 90k depending on OT.... I work with peers with70k or more in student loans. It might not be the most glamorous job, but with no debt it buys me all I want and leaves me with plenty of cash to invest and grow my net worth.

even if you graduate college, it’s probably not your liberal arts degree that is the reason for it. It’s about your character traits-if you are more motivated, driven, and personable-you are more likely to succeed.

I'm a freshmen in College, and after I graduated highschool I was really excited to go to college. However, after I went to my second half of orientation I felt like that there was something was up, and it made me want to wait a year before I went to college instead this year. Now, I am starting to wish that I stuck with that decision instead.

Woaw man, You said everything i needed to say but i cant. i`m in depression right now. Completed three years of college with hard effort in my projects. very stressful, work work work ans also have to pay my depts. My three years was a disaster. The educational system is bullshit. I have never learnt anything. A complete waste of time. friends stressed me out. Alot of competition. makes me feel stupid. money talks in college. friends had money, they slided through college life, me? it was suffering. My parents don`t understand though. right now i`m in fright if i`m gonna succeed with life. Life isn`t fair. I worked hard but i failed and my friends didn`t work on their projects but they got help with money and passed. COLLEGE IS CRAP. but i hope it doesn`t screw my life. And you are right bro. happiness is what i`m in search of, not luxury. Money is Evil too.

You need skills of some kind to offer an employer or you are screwed. Young people get out can’t get a job and are told you are lazy. They got scammed. Those professors only care about a paycheck. They know you are getting scammed. Owe a huge amount of money. Trades are wide open technical and vocational education pay well.
