True. I always think that psychology students or graduates or psychologist can read my mind. I always wanted to study psychology but my parents would think that I can't have a decent job after it and I will just end up getting crazy, the same with the mental hospital patient. They think that if I major in psychology I will only be a psychologist after, they don't know that psychology students have a lot of job opportunities.

I wouldnt say I dont like people (as many engineering majors claim to), but I have no issues being on my own for days or even weeks as long as there is something interesting to be working on, and that's why I'm in Mechanical engineering. He's absolutely right, every like 9th week I'm so burned out that I spent a day or two just relaxing watching videos like this, but besides those recovery periods, I spend all of my time outside of class in the IREC or SAE/FSAE teams working on cars, robots, planes, rockets, manufacturing equipment, etc. I see my friends maybe twice a year, unless theyre directly involved in the projects, and I try to see my girlfriend at least one full day a week but its usually a study date on the weekends. Sometimes breakfast before classes on campus. Some people think it sounds horrible, honestly it feels just right to me. The day doesnt feel right if I havent learned something or made progress creating something
@PsycosisIncarnated2 жыл бұрын

As a math and physics double major, stereotypes about us are like what the engineering major said but cranked up to 11. So much so that we have our own stereotypes about engineering majors. Engineering majors are seen as loud and outgoing compared to us. You can feel the difference, when you walk into each classroom. When you walk into an engineering classroom it’s loud with people talking. When you walk into a physics classroom people are each talking in there own groups at a moderate level. And then when you walk into a math classroom, it’s dead silence. Of course, we also have the stereotype of all being nerdy, socially inept, know it all, geniuses.

Hi, I'm confused at what's a Major can someone please enlighten me on the matter ? Where I live we don't have Majors we have École de Métiers (DEP), Techniques (DEC), Baccalauréat, Maitrise, Doctorat...... DEP is Professional studies, you only need up the your middle school to get int and it's specific to the work you want to do. For example : Beneficiary Attendants have a DEP, you only learn what you need to know for the work ; there's less theory and it's usually faster than a DEC. DEC is College, you can follow a general course to complete only your mandatory classes (French, English, Philosophy, PE..) There are also general courses like Human Sciences which are general and not specific for a job, can be useful if you want to continue to University. Then there are the Techniques (that's what I'm in), these can offer you specific jobs and last up to 3 to 4 years, for example I study Radiotherapy as my Technique and when I am done with my studies I'll become a Radiotherapist. Afterwards it's the University that can be mandatory for some jobs like Doctor, it's useful otherwise to get better promotions and salaries, I'm pretty sure it's the same about anywhere. There are 3 grades of University studies Baccalauréat (BACC) Maitrise Doctorat
@okioki46093 жыл бұрын
Majors are specific programs of studies in the u.s which can include education in core studies plus specialized classes in your given major (ex: radiotherapy). Its basically just what you have chosen to take your classes in. In the u.s there are three levels of university. An associates is a two year degree which can be earned at community college. A bachelors is a 4 year degree which can be earned at public/private university. After that there is graduate school where you can earn your masters or PhD. This takes the longest up to 2-3 to 6 years. Most jobs require a bachelors and a good job requires a masters atleast. Associates are for specific jobs like a dental hygienist or a nurse.

Wow! The Beacon engages in its own form of stereotyping, while creating a basic video. Viewing this piece of film, one would believe that the vast majority of university students are males, rather than females. With a seven to three ratio here, there's hardly a well balanced selection of opinions and perspectives provided. Another form of stereotyping presented in this video is the lack of students above age 25 and/or with disabilities who are consulted about the stereotypes most strongly attached to their majors. I can't help but wonder if the Beacon staff are intentionally attempting to discourage females, those above age 25, and/or those living with disabilities from attending this university. They're certainly not being well represented.
@weaselhunter83246 жыл бұрын
RainbowExplorer, I know what I am about to state may seem very ridiculous to you, but hear me out. Most females wouldn't even notice that there was more males being interviewed in the first place, I certainly didn't. I find it silly to think that just because there are more men in this video than women I, as a woman, should be discouraged. I believe it was just by chance that there were more men than women interviewed in the video; I don't see why they would do otherwise. If this video was indeed using *randomly selected* students, the chances of there being someone disabled is incredibly low. It's not actually a sad fact, it's good. 2-4 of the population is suffering from a disability that causes significant difficulties to function normally/properly. Do you see what is good about this? Less than 1 in every 20 people have to go through such difficulties. And as we are advancing that percentage will likely fall. My dear, are you catching on to my point here? Statistics are a wonderful thing. I may have missed something, but where do they say their ages? As far as I can tell, a few of them _may_ have been above the age of 25. Unlikely middle aged or above, but it's possible a few may have been 25-35. If I did miss something to direct their ages, please point it out for me. I believe you are being a bit melodramatic when you say "They're certainly not being well represented". Just because they did not add a person with a disability in the video, they were poorly representing them? Just because there were more men in the video, they were poorly representing women? And because no one had stated their age to be over 25, they were poorly representing late students? Peace.
@weaselhunter83246 жыл бұрын
Hambardzum Galstyan, they're just a bit too sensitive to this stuff. They've come to the point where they see it ('stereotypes', I guess) in places it doesn't exist. I wish them the best in getting a more clear state of mind, it will do no good to call them out like that.

You failed to notice that there also wasn't any trans people represented in the video. I can't help but wonder if you purposefully did not mention this because you're transphobic and do not want transgender people attending college. There also wasn't anyone under the age of 18. There weren't any animals. And I don't believe that every race, nationality, religion, sexuality, sexual identity, hair color, eye color, weight, and height was represented in the video.
